Server 2008 R2 64 bit, SSRS 2008 64 bit with Report Builder 3.0 issues with Oracle OLE Driver
Folks, ran out of idea on this issues. Setup as shown at the Title. I can connect via VS 2010 but report builder cannot run properly when setup with connection string. I use a 32 bit Oracle Driver and VS 2010 works well with it, however, Report Builder on SSRS report a bad image issues while attempting to use the same driver. What have been tried: 1-Already attempted to try to download Oracle ODP drivers 64 bit, but current driver 11g and minor version above 11g does not install, installation failed. So far all chats indicated that Server 2008 R2 does not have a Oracle 64 bit driver provided y Oracle. Any help is appreciated ....

Hi Tortoro, I had a similar issue when running x64 bit systems with x86 clients. What I found was that there are 2 ODBC setups that will achieve the same result but use different drivers. when your client only recognizes the x86 drivers you need to launch and setup the DSN via c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe (yeah 32bit drivers under the sysWOW64 directory, go figure) and the client recongnizes that connection and obivously run the 64bit connection via the control panel. That is if you are using a x64 bit edition of windows ofcourse.

Hello mrchips_17 Thanks for the reply, I think we have similar issues, except I am using OLE Driver. I have to download ODAC 64 bit for Server 2008 R2. I think the learning curve here is to learn how Oracle Driver works 64 bit (With different Oracle version 9,10 and 11) works with Microsoft Server 2008 R2 and Report Builder 3.0. The final Solution: 1--Download ODAC Driver 64 bit that is for Win 7 or at least they claim to work with Windows Server 2008 R2. 2--Install and transfer tnsnames.ora to the ....\Network\Admin location 3--Reboot and restart Thanks Tortoro

Where do you download the 64-bit ODAC Driver? On Oracle's download site I can't see anything.

I am a novice in Oracle and currently, like you all, I'm surrounded by this integration ____ based on a requirement from a client who needs Oracle so bad. ODAC is a package and I'm not sure what version 32/64 is there because is no mention. The only important things from ODAC seem to be the providers and Visual Studio integration. The client can be downloaded sepparately in 32/64 flavors (it seems that only this counts). I managed to use Reporting Services 2008 R2 x64 with Report Builder 3.0 on Windows Server 2008 x64 by installing both 32bit and 64bit Oracle Clients. I used from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html then pressed See All for 32 and then for 64 and downloaded the files win64_11gR2_client.zip and win32_11gR2_client.zip . Then installed Administrator option (to be sure). Though I think it would suffice only to install instant client 32bit and 64bit (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-097480.html). There is a post around here discussing this issue. The main idea is that Report Builder 3.0 is 32bit and Reporting Services x64 si 64bit. Therefore every one of them needs 32/64bits clients to connect to Oracle. Visual Studio integration with Oracle is easily done only by installing ODAC (Oracle Data Access Components) (latest version supports Visual Studio 2010) (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/dotnet/utilsoft-086879.html). After this step you can choose when selecting Oracle, to have .NET Provider for Oracle or ODP.NET or OLE. I think that at this moment .NET Provider for Oracle is somehow deprecated. Therefore I tried as much as I could to use ODP.NET. The problem is that .NET Provider for Oracle is used also in Reporting Services, Business Intelligence and Report Builder 3.0. Also .NET provider for Oracle does not display even the list of tables in Report Builder 3.0 so the user needs to enter the query by hand which is not a solution in my case. Therefore I need to add ODP.NET also to these applications. I opened a question regarding this problem. Tortoro, if you're still around... so you were able to get Reporting Services for 2008R2 to work with the 64bit client for Oracle 11g by installing ODAC? When I installed the 64b client both VS and SSRS both gave me the "64 bit" error message. An MSDN page stated that SSRS only works with the 32 bit Oracle client. So, I installed the 32 bit client and VS worked like a charm, but when I deployed the report to SSRS the report gave me the same error when running the report. After all my fustration I'm creating a 32 bit server until I can resolve the issue.

mz1zcd, yes I am now running SSRS on my 64 bit machine with the OLE Driver from Oracle. It was never clear cut which driver I finally have installed. The SSRS (SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit) and the 64 bit Server 2008 R2 uses the 64 bit driver. I need the 64 bit since I am addressing datasets that goes beyond the 32 bit limit for memory address. My machine is already in production mode and works since July 2010. Browsing around the website provided by Oracle seems to help. Tortoro
