Select People and Groups Dialog box cannot find any users
Hi all, I have installed new standalone Sharepoint 2007 sp2 server intergrated with SQL Server 2005. I have only completed the installation and have yet started working through the administrator tasks to complete the installation. I am at the moment adding new users to the farm administrators group and I have an issue I hope you can help me with. I select Update farm administrator's group from the operation tab within the central administration website. I then select new --> Add User. On the Add Users: Central Administration Page if I add a username in the people picker such as websters it will resolve to my domain account, I can also search for any account across our multiple domains, the issue I have is as follows. If I click on the open book icon , labelled browse, It opens the select people and groups dialog box and any username I type into this box it attempts to resolve, i get the message processing request, it then fails to find any matches and gives me the error message of No results were found to match your search item. Please could you tell me what I have not configured that allows this directory search to work? Many thanks Steve

Hi Steve,I'm a bit confused based on your wording. Initially you say that "I can also search for any account across our multiple domains." You then later say you search returns no results. For this answer, I'm assuming that you can manually type in names and it works okay, but the search fails to work. By default, this should work, and there is not normally anything you need to do to enable it. However, there are some properties that SharePoint exposes that allows you to set custom filters. I'm only mentioning this as it could have been set somehow. One of them is the peoplepicker-searchadcustomfilter. Here is how you can see if this property is set:stsadm -o getproperty -url <centraladminUrl> -pn peoplepicker-searchadcustomfilterThere are a couple of other properties as well. Here is a blog article that may help you narrow down if one of these was used. http://www.synergyonline.com/blog/blog-moss/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?List=fcb287b5%2D7a1a%2D4206%2Da04f%2D2a97805e4a25&ID=5If it's not this, you might try to create a new web application and site collection and see how it works there.Randy - http://sharepointhawaii.com/randywilliams

Hi Steve, In addition to Williams' tips, please try to create a default SSP for the newly installed SharePoint farm first, perform a full user profile import then check the result. References below might help you to achieve it.Configure the primary Shared Services Providerhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262649.aspxManage import connectionshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263343.aspx Best Regards. Thank you both for you help and links. Randy I will attempt to explain better which part of Sharepoint I am having issues with the following example. 1) I open Sharepoint Central Administration 2) I then Click On Operations & then Update Farm Administrators Group 3) On the new page I click Add > New User 4) I then get the Add New User Screen. On this screen there is the section Add User with a white box to enter the user names. 5) If I enter any username in the whitebox and click the icon of the man with a tick it resolves the user and prefixes the correct domain. The Issue. 6) If I choose not to enter the username and instead to search for a user by clicking on the book icon I get the new pop up box titled "Select People and Groups - Web Dialog Box" 7) Any username, part of name , surname, forename , domain + username returns the same error message each time for any user, even the ones it resolved in my point 5. The error message is "No results were found to match your search item" I have created an SSP as recommended by Lily Wu above and configured the user profile and properties to import every user from the forest. I can see that it succesfully imported 1500 profiles and has created a mysite for each user. I can click view user profiles and I am able to search for any account from the domain the server is on but not from the rest of the forest. I am stabbing in the dark trying to get the full import working and also the user searching working so any help would be greatly received. Steve

One more thing to add that I have just found is that if I add an account to a site collectionsadministratorsgroup it then appears in the search box.
