Secondary Site won't install
Good day everyone: We have a Secondary Site that won't install. First time we installed it everyhting was ok, but then one day Site failed and we try different ways to have it back but it never did so we decided to uninstall it. We followed this procedure: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828370 to uninstall the server... After that we have tried to reinstall it but it won't install. It always fails. It's a Server 2008 and it has same configuration and prerequisites like the others servers. We follow the same procedure but it won't install. At this time we don't know if it is because we missed an step to uninstall it or reason why. By checking the LAN SENDER queries of my Primary Site, I found these entries: 3:46AM The sender cannot install secondary site "G16" on server "SERVER.domain.com" because it cannot retrieve the encryption public key. Please refer to your SMS documentation or the Microsoft Knowledge Base for further troubleshooting information. ________________________________________________________________________________________ 6:00AM The sender cannot install secondary site "G16" on server "SERVER.domain.com" because the sender cannot create the SMS Bootstrap initialization file "\\SERVER.domain.com\g$\SMS_BOOTSTRAP.INI". The operating system reported error 53: The network path was not found. Possible cause: The SMS Service account for site "G16" might not have the appropriate privileges to create the initialization file Solution: Verify that the account has Administrator privileges to server "SERVER.domain.com". (Note: It has same priviledges as all others servers) Possible cause: There is not enough free disk space on server "SERVER.domain.com". Solution: Make more space available on the destination drive. (Note: Disk space is OK) Plese let me know if you would find a log helpful for this. Thanks!!!

Have you added the computer account of the primary site to the local admins of the secondary site?

We have the account "SMS" which is the one of the Primary Site and we have added that account to Local Admins for all Secondary Sites (including the one which is not installing)

Can you ping the computer using the name you added in the address? error 53 is normally related to naming problems.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Thanks Kent... Yes, I can ping the name of my server (I used server.domain.com for this example) but yes, I can ping the real server's name and it gives me the right IP it has assigned. Ping responds in a good time interval.

I found this article: Check the important part which says: On the secondary site in the file SMS_BootStrap.ini, you will also notice that it mentions the purpose as DEINSTALL. <--- That is the important part!!! I check the file and it has Deinstall instruction which is why it's not installing... http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2010/12/08/reinstall-of-a-system-center-configuration-manager-2007-secondary-site-fails-when-attempted-via-the-primary-site-console.aspx I noticed that is probably the problem we're having... In the link it says you have to modify delsite.lkp because it keeps the secondary sites that you have uninstalled before.... It says that you have to delete the ones that you want to Install again... I will try that and let you know results...

Even though we already modified the file... Secondary site server keeps showing the log with the instruction DEINSTALL ... We already restart the server and the SMS_Bootstrap.INI keeps saying DEINSTALL... Any idea on WHY it keeps saying Deinstall?... (The uninstall was last week, since we already modified the LKP file) ... do you think something is cycled???

Hello - If the installation is not happening through the console menthod then, why don't you try the other method of direct installation from the source? If you ask me the second method is more reliable than the first one. Anoop C Nair

Hello: Problem does not seem to be installation itself, but that when you try to install it, since it was there before it tries to deinstall... We already performed this procedure: http://ckrim.blogspot.com/2010/10/how-to-remove-and-rebuild-sms-2003-sccm.html We deleted all the Registry keys showed there. We found another Key that we dont know if we Should remove in order for the installation to proceed. This is the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SmsInventory I also noticed that SCCM shows that the server that I want to be a Secondary Site has the Client installed (Client = Yes)... but if I go to the server it doesn't have it. Shall I delete that registry key? Any ideas on this? Thanks!

Ok... at the end what works is that we Installed it with a different Site Code... I know it's recommended to install it with different site code... but we had already installed other secondary sites with Same site Code with no issue... So... in this specific Seconday Site, we HAD to install it with different Site Code and it worked. Thanks!
