Sccm 2007 OS deployment PXE error
Hello I've been battling this problem whole day today and I hope you can assist me in resolving this. As the name of the topic states I'm trying to use SCCM to deploy OS. Been reading up on this subject and I think I didnt miss anything and yet I have issue when I try to install system via PXE. Little background info: System is win2008 standard running SCCM 2007 SP2 with SQL2008 that also runs on separate Win2008 stand server. I'm also using my second drive to keep all SCCM generated files ( NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS text file is added to root on C: ) WDS role is installed on SCCM server but is not touched (default) Sccm is working fine, collects info about machines, deploys packages, etc but OS deployment part seams dont wanna play. There are no other tftp services running on this subnet or LAN. This is only test lab environment. Error when I boot with PXE : This machine is simulated on vmware fusion but I also tested with "real" hardware - laptop and result is the same with same error. So nothing to do with machine being virtual. I checked my boot.vim files and can be found as expected on E: drive under remote install. I also added new boot.wim just to check if default boot.wim was damaged but again result was the same as showen on first picture. All boot.vim are added to distribution points. Windows deployment task is also added and advertised respectively to all workstations in collection. Regarding DHCP : added 066 (name of server) and 067 (SMSBoot\x86\wdsnbp.com) to my dhcp server which is running on mu DC (not sccm) coz with out it I can't get any kind of respons from test machines and PXE just times out not getting respons at all from SCCM. Site status is reporting all A-OK. PXE role for SCCM installed correctly according to logs <10-02-2011 14:47:11> ======== Completed Installion of Pre Reqs for Role SMSPXE ======== <10-02-2011 14:47:11> Installing the SMSPXE <10-02-2011 14:47:11> Machine is running Windows 2003 SP1 or later. Hi Did you also distributed the x64 Bootimages to your PXE and your Distribution Point? Did you import the computer record in the sccm database with the MAC Address? What's in the smspxe.log on your PXE Point Server? Greetings Jürg

This is an error on the client side after the pxe boot has started and during the transfer of boot up of the boot/WinPE image. And of course I can't help but notice that you are doing this on a system made by that fruit company. Have you tried this on a real computer or at least a real computer running VMWare workstation?Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

Hello Juerg Yes both boot images are distributed to both PXE and DP. Regarding import of computers I did add one PC through computer association and got it online. Is it possible to avoid adding computers and get login to system as we have on WDS ? (thinking out loud) smspxe.log doesnt report any errors.

Hello Jason Possible its client side error but has nothing to do with apple :D and if you read what I wrote under picture one I did test on IBM thinkpad laptop but got the same error. Will do some more testing as I go. Most important I got response after I re-added mac adr to computer association.

Sorry, missed that. The screenshot so dominated the post that it tainted everything I saw. Does the smspxe.log show the incoming request at all? It should show traffic from the client and then a database lookup indicating whether it found the device in the db or not. R2 added the ability to support unknown systems: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc431374.aspx. Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

No worries I did use kinda huge images ..sorry about that and will try to keep it to minimum. I re-added mac adr to computer association and it worked.Must be typo ..typical human error. I checked and I do not run R2. Where can I get my hands on 2007 R2? Thanks
