Hello Experts Is it possible to draw a scatter chart like this in SSRS 2008 R2/SSRS 2012? http://peltiertech.com/WordPress/excel-chart-with-colored-quadrant-background/ What I want to create a Scatter chart with four quadrants. This will show negative as well as positive values both for x-axis and y-axis where 0/0 will be the centre point. Please let me know if someone has some ideas about it Best regards Rone

Hello Jason Nice idea, however how would I determine my 0 point using an image. I will describe my problem fully Let assume I have Time on x-axis and value on y-axis My project might be overbudget and as well as over time on the otherway it might be on budget and on time or under budget and under time When they are on budget and time they will be closer 0(middle) point. I am not understanding the issue properly, where will the markings be? in the image, the centre point is (10,10) and not (0,0) as you are telling. Could you atleast draw a version in mspaint and paste it here? Hi Jason Thanks again for helping me. Yes you are right my apology. So if the project is 10 days and 10k it is right on budget and right on time. Less than 10 days and over 10k is bad in budget and good in time. Greater than 10 k and greater than 10 days would be bad enough for both time and money and similarly if less than 10 k and less than 10 days great in both ways. I dont know what you mean by axes meet in the middle like a cross instead of the L shape it has now. Please give any sample example and if you can send it to me at ronaldbi@live.com , it would be great I just would like to show four quadrants as shown in the figure and I really need that for my project and I have no idea how to show them using a scatter chart because I have never use that before and there is not a great help on the web about this chart Best Regards Rone

This is what I meant by the Cross or L shape (forgive my skills at paint, not really good :)) The difference would be in the tick marks, you can see the tick marks inside the squares if it is a cross, and just on the L shape if it is the L shape i talked about. Also, would the quadrants always be a square? Because lets say if 10,10 is the centre, then it can have 10 to the left and just 10 to the right. So what if there are projects that are more than 20 days late? would the scale still show 35 for example, or would everything be classified as 20? Hi Rone, Thanks for your posting. Currently, it is not supported to divise the background of a chart to multiple areas and each erea has individual color based on an expression. So, I am afraid Jason's suggestion to set the background image is the closed approach. Regards, Mike Yin

Hi Jason. Thank you for your continued help. Actually I was away that is why I could not respond back. I would either go with L shape or cross shape but preferably to L shape. I was thinking that we might need to have a kind of fixed x-axis and Y-axis. We might need to classified everything to 20 or 40 but I am open for suggestion (Do we need to use secondary X- axis and secondary Y-axis to achieve this)and then we will decide based on the size of the bubble that how big the Project is. So for example is that possible we will show the Project with 1Million to big size bubble and project with 500k to small and 100k to smaller and so on. I never draw this graph before so do not have much idea about the scatter chart. Please help me to resolve this problem. Hey really sorry, i was preoccupied with some office work :) For the first graphy, I just used an image of the 4 quadrants, and then made it as the background image of my chart. Apart from that, I also set the max/min of both my axes, it is that simple. If you still want me to send the chart, let me know or you can mail me at jason143@gmail.com. By the way, I was thinking of some other ideas. I can have the quadrant coming out from a sql spatial query (works on SSRS 2008R2 n above) and also plot the points on the map layer. But getting the axes is going to be the problem, I wont be able to display that...
