Saving to Sharepoint 2010
Hi I am hoping someone can help me with this issue. I am an IT Admin but I am new to company and new to Sharepoint. We are running Sharepoint 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Clients in question are Windows 7 clients. Problem is that some of the clients (Windows 7) are not able to save either new files or existing files back to Sharepoint 2010 Document locations. This is not true of all Windows 7 clients only a few of them. What is interesting is that a developer system is able to "Save back to Sharepoint 2010" on a customers system from his client via VPN but when same client tries to save back SharePoint to our Sharepoint server they are not able to, suggesting to me that the issue we are having is a server issue and not a client issue. The Server is a Server 2008 R2 with Desktop Experience installed and running. The client has web client service and it is running. The user is able to upload documents to the document location on the Shareponit server but not able to save or make changes to existing document and have it save back to Sharepoint only to local locations such as "Documents" The same system or systems are also unable to "Open with explorer" but again process works when attached by VPN to a customer server running Sharepoint 2010. When they try to "Open with explorer" on our server they receive this error "Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer" I have scoured the internet looking for a possible solution to this but have not found anything. I have a laptop running Windows 7 that works as expected on our Sharepoint system and XP systems work as expected as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks David

When you say they are unable to save to SharePoint, will you provide some more details? Do the users receive an error? Are they saving from the client application? What document types are they trying to save? Jason Warren Infrastructure Specialist Habanero Consulting Group habaneroconsulting.com/blog

HI, As you have mentioned that they are unable to use explorer view I would suggest you to implement mapping the sharepoint folders as network drive so that they can use it in the same way. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Hi I may have discovered a possible solution to this. I think this may be a possibility http://thechriskent.com/2012/03/02/fixing-sharepoint-office-integration-problems/ Below is a hotfix, which is already part of Windows 7 however the registry change is not part of Windows 7 as noted in the document. The fix is included in Windows 7. To fix the issue, you only need to create the registry item below. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943280 I applied and tested the registry edit on to the Windows 7 system I am using and there does not seem to be any negative impact after adding the change. From what I can tell the client will prompt for correct authentication but will not send the authentication on to the server because it thinks that it is looking at an internet site and not an intranet site. I will know more tomorrow.
