[WSS3 with Office 2007] Hi All, I open and edit an Excel file from a SP site, when using Office 2003 edition, I get the dialog window to fill up the metadata/columns I've added to the document library. When using Office 2007, I click the Save button and no dialog window appears. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot in advance

I suspect that none of the metadata that you are attaching to the file is required. Since Office 2007 is more tightly integrated with SharePoint, SharePoint is able to pickup the metadata settings (blank ones probably in your case) from the document information panel (DIP). Although Office 2003 also has an DIP SharePoint 2007 Office 2003 isn't interfaced well enough to know whether any fields are required so its opening the panel when you close the document to make sure that you have filled in any required fields.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP

If there are required columns that haven't been filled in then Office 2007 will open a dialog telling you it can't save the file unless you fill in the required fields. It will then direct you back to the DIP when you close the dialog. The difference is that in Office 2003 the dialog opens the DIP as a dialog box rather than in the context of Office when you try to save the document. That is normal behavior. I thought from your question you were asking why you got th dialog in Office 2003 and not in Office 2007. If you have required columns and are saving the document without being forced to enter information than something is wrong with your installation. Thanks Paul, The "problem" was that the file was saved in xls rather than xlsx. When saving an xls file (using office 2007), the DIP doesn't jump immediately, only with xlsx format.
