Save word doc as pdf
Hi, I have made a custom content type in a document library in WSS 3.0. When I create a new document (word doc) in the library, I am able to fill in meta data in word. I can then save the document in the document library abd the metadata is also saved. I then save the word document as pdf directly to the document library. When I then open properties of the pdf document in the document library, all metadata is missing. Is there a way to save the metadata when I save the document as pdf? regards, guybrun78

I am using Word 2007 and I think this is out of the box functionality.

> Is there a way to save the metadata when I save the document as pdf? The metadata is connected to a file called xxxx.doc (or .docx). When you save the same file as .pdf as far as the document library is concerned it is a completely different file. Therefore the metadata belonging to the xxxx.doc file is not part of xxxx.pdf2010 Books: SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc. 2007 Books: WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.

In the case of a document library, the key field is the file name (or in the case of a List Item, the ID), hence why you can change the name of the file but not the type. Renaming a file from .doc to .pdf ='s new file which ='s new metadata (based upon the defaults). If this is a normal thing i.e. checked in as a .doc and renamed to a .pdf once completed you could set up a workflow which matches on the 'title' field, which copies across the metadata to each field - however if you have multiple document libraries with similar functionality, then your need to create multiple workflows :-(Regards, Aaron www.aaron-rendell.co.uk
