Save erases fields in document library
Hello
I have a document library where I enter some fields manually. I noticed that when I save the document, the manually entered fields are erased. Is there a way to prevent this?
Thanks

I figured out what is happening. I am saving over the fields with a new document whose properties are blank. the fields are thus being overwritten by the blank properties. Now, is there anyway to remove fields from the document properties?

Hi,
I have not got what is your exact meaning.
Were the documents in your library infopath forms?
What you mean of “fields”?
They are the columns of your library or the contents of the documents?
If you want to save forms into document library, you have to create a form template first. And you just can edit the template for changing the
layout of form.
Hope it is helpful!

Hello
No, the documents are not infopath forms. The documents are excel sheets.
By fields, I suppose I meant columns. They are both contents of the document and columns in the library. I use code to take some of the fields from the excel document and put them into the properties. Then when the document is saved, the
properties are saved into the document library columns.
The problem is when the document gets saved over. If the document is opened from the document library, there is no problem, because the properties are populated. the problem is when I save to the library from another location, because the properties
of the manually entered columns, in my current document are blank and thus write over the columns in the document library.
Does that make any sense?
Thanks for the help
