Safe mode did not start successfully, IIS restart fixes the issue.
Our Share Point site goes down every night. Restarting IIS fixes the problem. The install is out of the box, nothing special at all. No custom web parts, pages, or other. The only error I see worth a darn in the SharePoint log and the Event Log is "Safe mode did not start successfully.". Please help diagnose the underling issue.

>The install is out of the box, nothing special at all. This doesn't help us much unless you say which SharePoint product this was and which form of the installation you used. Hi CobbDev, Could you please check the following thread, if it’s similar with your issue, you can try the solution there. I think you can get some useful information from it: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/7b9541f4-0eca-475c-b91a-db6852b67c2b/. Hope this could help you. Regards.

Please hold back with a reply until the OP has answered the question as to which SharePoint product he has. The quoted thread is from a user running Team Foundation Server. I see nothing in the OP's question here to suggest he is using Team Foundation Server and he has also not yet said that he is using Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 which is the other product mentioned in that thread. This: It turns out WSS was running under the D:\ drive on the primary server and the C:\ drive on the secondary server. To fix this, we deleted the default web application on the primary server and created a new default application on the secondary server. (Thanks to a colleague!) Note: When we created the new site we used the existing Default site and made sure the WSS Content database was the TFS Content database name STS_Content_TFS. is the key part of that quoted thread. Again, there is nothing in the original post in this the present thread to suggest that the user has more than one server and it is unlikely that he has TFS. Hi Mike, My original intention was to ask CobbDev to see if his/her issue is similar with this one. Because I can not get enough information about this problem from his description and I was anxious to solve this problem. Sorry for the mistake of my work and thank you for your reminding and advice. So, CobbDev, in order to solve your problem more accurate, could you please give some more information about your issue, such as detailed event log, which SharePoint product you use and so on. Regards.

Sorry, I am usually really good about adding details like this. I slipped up. The installation is Windows Sharepoint Services 3 on Windows Server 2008. The SQL instance is SQL Server 2008 on a separate machine. I can't be much more detailed than this as I didn't perform the original install. I believe it was installed as part of Essential Business Server installation.

> I believe it was installed as part of Essential Business Server installation. As you are not sure, let's assume it isn't part of an EBS installation because that has its own forum(s). However if you are sure that it is the thread should be moved there because the environment could be a reason for the problem. OK, I am sure it was installed as part of ESB.
