SSRS clients and SSAS clients ?
Hello. I am new to SSRS and SSAS My requirement is to have few static reports generated on a montly basis to be used by several users. Which clients should i consider giving to the users to see these reports. Having a sharepoint for just few reports seem to be a overkill ? i dont plan to do any frontend development to hold these reports ? What is the simplest way i can allow the users to view these reports whenver they want ? Will be grateful if you can respond asap.

Not sure what your end game is, but if you just want to give users access to static reports, you can schedule them using SSRS and deploy them to a file share or have them emailed to the targeted users as well. You could also expose the Report Manager interface to your users if you want to leverage more functionality. It have good granularity control on the security and functionality. Essentially, you could create a folder these users could see with the reports in it which are loaded by a scheduled snapshot. This will let the user pick the export format, while keeping the data static. You would not need SharePoint for either solution. Hello, SSRS has its own web portal, so you user can access the reports simply with an Internet Explorer and with MS Excel you can access SSAS cubes to show pivot tables. So there is not really a separated client required.Olaf Helper ----------- * cogito ergo sum * errare humanum est * quote erat demonstrandum * Wenn ich denke, ist das ein Fehler und das beweise ich tglich http://olafhelper.over-blog.de

Steve: Thanks,. I am not sure if i made my questions clear earlier, also i missed the second part of question earlier. Here i go again My end game is 1) I generate a monthly reports for my finance department. So i should have the reports generated every month in a location , where users would login to have a look it and export it. So do you suggest that report manager fit the bill for me ? If so, Does SSRS allow in its portal to have the history of all the previous months reports generated in the folder as i generate the next months reports 2) I also have the requirement to give my users access to generate adhoc report s from the Data Cubes to do some analytics reporting. Can i still accomplish this using Report Manager and excel ? Grateful if you can clarify. rgds Srikanth

Grateful if you can clarify. rgds Srikanth Hi Srikanth, Based on your requirement, I think data-driven subscriptions in Reporting Services could meet your need. With it you can customize the distribution of a report based on dynamic subscriber data. Data-driven subscriptions are intended for the following kinds of scenarios: Distributing reports to a large recipient pool whose membership may change from one distribution to the next. For example, distribute a monthly report to all current customers. Distributing reports to a specific group of recipients based on predefined criteria. For example, send a sales performance report to the top ten sales managers in an organization. To your second question, we could utilize report builder on the report manager to achieve the requirement. Report Builder is a client-side application that information workers can use to create and design ad hoc reports. Using Report Builder, users can select data and design reports without having to understand how and where the data is stored. Nor do they need to know any complex programming languages in order to create reports. They simply need to be familiar with the business model of your data.
