SSRS and Sharepoint
Hi Felyjos,
Thanks for your feedback.
I suggest you to follow the illustration listed on MSDN step by step, to verify whether you missed or misconfigure some settings
when you integrate Reporting Services in SharePoint according to production environment.
Thanks,
Bill Lu

You should verify that you have the correct version of the Reporting Services Add-in for your version of RS/SharePoint
Refer to the Supported combinations of the SharePoint add-in and Report Server section in the following article:

Hi Felyjos,
Do you mean your SharePoint version is SharePoint 2010?
If so, it would be your choice to follow the SharePoint 2010 steps for you.
Do you mean you can’t see the Run as Administrator option in the SharePoint Central Administrator item?
Firstly, you need to assure your current login account belongs to the Administrator group in this computer, then
as a workaround, you can also run Internet Explorer as an administrator and then paste the URL of SharePoint Central Administrator it to browser it, as a result, the all controls in Central Administration
should be enabled, please have a try.
Thanks,
Bill Lu

Hell Bill,
- No it is Sharepoint 2007 with 2 Front-End Servers (ServerFE1, ServerFE2), 2 Applications Servers (ServerA1, ServerA2) and a SQL
Cluster with 2 nodes (ServerSQL1, ServerSQL2).
- Yes I do not see the RunAs Administrator on the Application Servers (ServerA1 or ServerA2), I have only the Run As and it asks for
credentials...
- Yes my account is a Local Administrator on all servers
- Yes my account is farm administrator
SSRS is installed on ServerSQL1 instance MSSQLSERVER and InstanceS1
SSRS is installed on ServerA1 instance MSQLSERVER and InstanceA1
InstanceA1 is SharePoint integrated
When launching the rsSharePoint_x64.msi on the Front-End (ServerFE1) or the Application (ServerA1) I am getting an error:
SQL database login failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
I even try to run the msi after changing the IIS > Application Pools > DefaultAppPool > Advanced Settings > identity
to a service account public/sysadmin on the SharePoint database. Also I tried to change the web config to the SSRS SharePoint Integrated to false to make it use the account of IIS.
IN SQL Log on the Database Server ServerSQL1 I have for the MBSQLSPCL (Instance)
Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State 11.
There is no SQL on ServerFE1, ServerFE2 and ServerA2.
The Front-End Web Servers (ServerFE1, ServerFE2) needing the Add-In are separated from the Application Servers (ServerA1, ServerA2)
hosting the Sharepoint Central Administration Console needing the Reporting Services if I follow the msdn document... it is where it is so confused!!! (:
in the msdn article the SQL Server Reporting Services Report Server is always listed under the Application Role...
which for me seems to be the Application Servers (ServerA1 or ServerA2).
the Reporting Services Add-In is listed under the Front-End role with the Central Administration...
which seems for me to be two separate servers Front-End role *ServerFE1 or ServerFE2), Central Administration (ServerA1 or ServerA2).
I think it is this part which is caussing the issues!!!
- Should I run the SharePoint console on the Front-End Servers (ServerFE1 or ServerFE2)?
- Should I Install Reporting Services on the Front-End Servers (ServerFE1 or ServerFE2)?
- Should I have Reporting Services and Add-In reporting Services on the Front-End Servers (ServerFE1 or ServerFE2)?
- Should I run the SharePoint console on the Application Servers (ServerA1 or ServerA2)?
- Should I Install Reporting Services on the Applications (ServerA1 or ServerA2)?
- Should I have Reporting Services and Add-In reporting Services on the Application Server (ServerA1 or ServerA2)?

Hi Felyjos,
Thanks for your feedback.
I assume you had already installed the Reporting Service add-in on you sharepoint server (the server which you run SharePoint central
administration), please refer to the below articles to Active the Report Server Feature and configure Report Server integration.
How to: Activate the Report Server Feature
in SharePoint Central Administration
How to: Configure Report Server Integration
in SharePoint Central Administration
Moreover, General Application Settings was a category item in SharePoint 2010, you can follow
the below steps to find the Reporting Services Integration item.
1. In the start menu, right-click SharePoint central administration, select Run as Administrator.
2. In the left panel of the home page, click
General Application Settings.
3. Click the Reporting services Integration item in the Reporting Services category.

Hello
The installation of Sharepoint is on six servers:
SQL1 & SQL 2 Clustered SQL
AP1 and AP2 Application
FE1 and FE2 Front-end
Report Servers databases are on SQL1.
Reporting server has been installed on SQL1 and AP1.
Reporting Add-in for Sharepoint is installed on FE1, AP1, SQL1
http://1.2.3.4/Reports_xxxxxDB works but I am getting an error on
http://1.2.3.4/Reports_xxxxxMT
The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer.
The two are using the same SQL Server IP 1.2.3.4 ... they have different instances of SSRS...
Reading again the documents I have more questions:
- should I create a web application in SharePoint? a Site Collection? Are they already created with the Reporting Services?
Prerequisites:
Verify that IIS (if it is installed) does not have virtual directory with the same name you plan to use.
I don't see any virtual directory with the name I have in SSRS...!!!! on the Application Server IIS ... and on the Front-End Server IIS
It seems I miss a step ...
Verify that the Report Server Web Service URL is not already used especially by a SharePoint site.
It seems the web URL is already used by the previous instance of SSRS... but the name is different as it picked the exetnsions this one should be fine...
There is nothing under Central Administration > Site Settings > Site Features concerning a feature for Reporting Services !!!
Central Administration >
Application Management >
Site Collection Owners I have the site collection with my name as Primary Site Collection Administrator

Dom

Hi Dom,
There are a few things you need before SharePoint integration will work:
A Report Server(s) configured for SharePoint Integrated mode A SharePoint farm The Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint
You've said that you have 4 installations of Reporting Services (I'm assuming they are all seperate, stand-alone instances rather than a scale-out configuration). You need to choose which one you want to integrate with SharePoint and make sure that the Report
Server database has been created for SharePoint integration. You can verify this when you run the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
On the SharePoint Front-end servers only (i.e. those that will be used to serve the reports), you need to install the Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint.
On the Reporting Services server, you need to make SharePoint is installed. The Reporting Services machine has to be added to the same SharePoint farm as the front-end servers. To do this, the SharePoint object model must be present.
Once this has been done, you then go into the SharePoint central administration site --> General Settings --> Reporting Services --> Reporting Services Integration to configure teh integration between SharePoint and SSRS.
You should follow the links that Bill Lu posted earlier for detailed instructions at each stage

Hi Rob
SharePoint is running in a farm with six servers:
SQL1 and SQL2 (SQL Servers)
AP1 and AP2 (Application Servers)
FE1 and FE2 (Front-End Servers)
I have Reporting services already running for one instance not sharepoint integrated on SQL1. This is the only one so far. I am installing a new instance for SharePoint Integrated but I am not sure if it is on SQL1 or AP1 as per the various articles listed
in this thread it shows the Reporitng Services on the Application Server not on the SQL server which is ONLY hosting the databases for Report Server.
"A Report Server(s) configured for SharePoint Integrated mode: "
On which server should it be installed? Front-End? Applications? SQL Server? I installed it on the SQL Server (SQL1) but apparently it is not working... refusing to connect server not found!!!
I am trying to install it on the Application Server (AP1) but I could not have SQL installing the Service on the Application Server and the databases still on the SQL Server it is refusing to work...
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/0490630d-eb5a-47d4-b6be-ed6942d99a41
"A SharePoint farm:" It is an existing SharePoint farm which is used and functionning already for various purposes. Do I need to create a new web application or only a new web collection?
"The Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint:" it is installed on the three Servers SQL (SQL1), Applications(AP1) and Front-End(FE1)
"You've said that you have 4 installations of Reporting Services (I'm assuming they are all seperate, stand-alone instances rather than a scale-out configuration). You need to choose which one you want to integrate with SharePoint and make sure that
the Report Server database has been created for SharePoint integration. You can verify this when you run the Reporting Services Configuration Manager."
Yes the new instance used is SharePoint Integrated under the reporting Service Configuration Manager on SQL1
"On the SharePoint Front-end servers only (i.e. those that will be used to serve the reports), you need to install the Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint."
Yes it is installed. I will unsinstall the other ADD-In installed on SQL1 and AP1.
"On the Reporting Services server, you need to make SharePoint is installed. The Reporting Services machine has to be added to the same SharePoint farm as the front-end servers. To do this, the SharePoint object model must be present."
The Reporting Services Server is the SQL Server or the Application Server? in both cases they are part of the existing farm already.
"Once this has been done, you then go into the SharePoint central administration site --> General Settings --> Reporting Services --> Reporting Services Integration to configure teh integration between SharePoint and SSRS."
IT IS WHAT IS MISSING IN ANY CASE!!!
Still reviewing what is wrong...

Hello,
Still having the same error origin of this thread with the correct version of the Reporting Services Add-in for our version of RS/SharePoint.
Trying a new install again of the Add-In after removing the actual one, rebooting the server... hopefully the Uninstall will be cleaner...
There is only one version for SharePoint 2007 using SQL Server 2008, it is the 10.0.2531.00
This version is giving a SQL error...

Hello,
SQL Server 2008
Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64-Bits
SharePoint 2007
SSRS is running under a service account on the Database Server SQL1
The Add-In is in the Add/Remove Program list
http://mosshowto.blogspot.com/2009/01/sharepoint-report-server-2008.html
step 5.4 I am still failing
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa905871.aspx
"When installing the add-in on servers after a SharePoint product or technology has been installed, you can run the full add-in installation on only one of the SharePoint servers. For the other SharePoint servers in the farm, you must run the files only
installation of the add-in from the command line. The files-only installation installs the files but skips the custom actions section of the installation process.
After you have installed the add-in on all the servers, start SharePoint Central Administration to configure report server integration."
Should I run the Add-In on the six servers... 2 Front-End, 2 Applications and 2 SQL Clustered Servers>???
How Should I access my reports?
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80/ReportServer_ITOSMMT or
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80/Reports_ITOSMMT?
I am still not able to get the Report Server Integration Feature options in Sharepoint Site Collection Features!!!
"Activate the Report Server Integration Feature
Click on the Activate button corresponding to Report Server Integration Feature. "
I created several new Web Appliaction and collections and also new collections on existing web appliactions no trace of the Report Server Integration Feature on any of them...
Any security issue?
Any log to verify the Add-In is properly installed?
I made a test in Native Mode for the report server and everything works fine.... (:

Hi Bill,
The issues with the illustration in msdn it does not speccify what to do when you have:
Existing SharePoint environment you want to join... and also 2 SQL Servers, 2 Front-End Servers, 2 Applications Servers msdn is just using two servers ONLY (:
it just says install on the "SharePoint server computer"... which one from the 6 ? AP1? AP2 Both? Others?
SharePoint Web application which one? FE1? FE2? both? Others?
report server computer which one? SQL1? SQL2? AP1? AP2? all of them have Reporting Services Installed?
review this article
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb677365.aspx which seems doing stuff by role which will be helpful...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb677365.aspx
this article does not explain what to do if the Application Server Role and the Database Role are on two separate servers... Should I install SQL Server Reporting Services only on AP1 ??? not on SQL1
the SQL part looks okay so far but Sharepoint do not seem to pick the Reporting Service info..
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326213.aspx
To specify report server integration settings
In Administrator Tools, click SharePoint Central Administration.
Click the General Application Settings tab.
In the Reporting Services section, you should see the following links: Reporting services integration, Add a report server to the integration, Set server defaults. If you do not see the section or the links, the Reporting Services Add-in is not installed on
the computer or the feature is not activated. For more information, see How to: Activate the Report Server Feature in Site Settings
and on
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb677366.aspx
Find Report Server Integration Feature in the list.
I installed the Add-In on SQL1 and AP1 but still no option within sharepoint (:
these options are still missing they do not exist ...
I am back to the same question on which server should I do what... ?
All pieces seem to be installed but not on the correct server
Thanks,
Dom

Hello,
SQL1 is hosting the Databases and ReportServer and ReportServerDB
AP1 is running Reporting Services
FE1 is supposed to have the Reporting Services Add-In when the 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON' will be fixed..
Do I need to install SQL on FE1 with the Reporting Services as well?
Will it work like this?
- I am using a Domain Account.
- I don't see any option for Reporting Services in the SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration Console
- Could not install the Add-In on FE1 NT AUTHORITHY\ANONYMOUS failed to login
As in the Microsoft articles the Reporting Services is under the Application Role so I installed it on AP1.
BUT as the Reporting Services (Application Role Server) are on the same server as Front-End with the Reporting Services it is unclear what to do when the two roles are on two separated servers...

The report servers have to be added into the SharePoint farm, so SharePoint must be installed on the Report Servers to do so. Installing SSRS on the application server would work, but make sure this isn't going to affect performance. If you leave SSRS where
it is, then you would also need to install SharePoint on the SQL Server machine(s) as well.
The Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint has to be installed on all the front-end servers that will be serving reports. This link details the necessary configuration steps to get it all working in a distributed environment.

Hi Dom,
There are a few things you need before SharePoint integration will work:

Hello,
I still do not have the SharePoint central administration site --> General Settings --> Reporting Services --> Reporting Services Integration
Any idea why it is not present?
As a reminder I am using SQL 2008 SP1 and SharePoint 2007.
Where is "General Settings" is it Site Actions > Site Settings?
SharePoint Application Management > SharePoint Web Application Management > Web Application general settings?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288916(office.12).aspx
BUT no Reporting Services on this page only Web Application , RSS Settings, Blog API Settings, ..., Recycle Bin...
If I go to SharePoint Central Administration > Home I have:
- View All Site Content
Central Administration
. Operations
. Application Management
Shared Services Administration
. SharedServices_Prod
Thanks,
Dom

Hi Rob,
As the Report servers are on the SQL Server for SharePoint it should already be part of the farm, isn't it?
The ClusterSP is part of the Farm as Windows SharePoint Databses Services are installed on it.
I will installed the add-in on the front-end servers.
Let me review the article and see what is missing
Front-End : Add-In
Application: SSRS
SQL: Databases
Thanks,
Dom

Hello,
I might get a partial answer:
"
Log Name: Application
Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3
Date: 10/18/2011 3:52:29 PM
Event ID: 3351
Task Category: Database
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: MBSPAP1.ad.medctr.ucla.edu
Description:
SQL database login failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
"
But it is unclear which database(s) is(are) involved???
the two machines names are listed under the security of the Sharepoint databases... Sharepoint_Content, Sharepoint_Content, WSS_Content it seems missing some other DBs
domain\ap1
Thanks,
DOm

Hello,
reviewing
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb510781.aspx my configuration seems okay for the SSRS so not sure why the connection and the rest do not work... (: \
Uninstalling for the third time SQL Instance on ServerSQL1, SSRS on ServerA1.
trying to reinstall again...
Should I install all at once...
- Instance on ServerSQL1 and ServerSQL2?
- Install SSRS on ServerA1 and ServerA2?
- Install Add-in on ServerFE1 and ServerFE2?
Ot is it sufficient to start with ServerSQL1, ServerA1 and ServerFE1 as the SSRS is not a clusterable item...?
Thanks,
Dom

Hi Felyjos,
Do you mean your SharePoint version is SharePoint 2010?
If so, it would be your choice to follow the SharePoint 2010 steps for you.
Do you mean you can’t see the Run as Administrator option in the SharePoint Central Administrator item?
Firstly, you need to assure your current login account belongs to the Administrator group in this computer, then as a workaround, you can also
run Internet Explorer as an administrator and then paste the URL of
SharePoint Central Administrator it to browser it, as a result, the all controls in Central Administration should be enabled, please have a try.
Thanks,
Bill Lu

Hell Bill,
- No it is Sharepoint 2007 with 2 Front-End Servers, 2 Applications Servers and a SQL Cluster with 2 nodes.
- Yes I do not see the RunAs Administrator on the Application Servers, I have only the Run As and it asks for crecdentials...
- Yes my account is a Local Administrator on all servers
- Yes my account is farm administrator
The Front-End Web Servers needing the Add-In are separated from the Application Servers hosting the Sharepoint Central Administeration Console needing the Reporting Services if I follow the msdn document... it is where it is so consfused!!! (:
- Should I run the SharePoint console on the Front-End?
- Should I Install Reporting Services on the Front-End
- Should I have Reporting Services and Add-In reporting Services on the Front-End?
- Should I have Reporting Services and Add-In reporting Services on the Application Server?
Thanks,
Dom

Hi Felyjos,
Thanks for your post.
According to your description, your SharePoint server and SharePoint content database server should be two different
computers. You are not sure about which server the Reporting services Add-in shoub be installed on, The add-in installs program files and application pages, including pages that you open in Central Administration to set the report server URL and other integration
settings, so you should install it on the SharePoint Server. Additionally, if your report server database is located on a separate server from the SharePoint server, you can refer to the two points below:
1. For deployments that include a SharePoint server farm, install a SharePoint Web front-end on the report server computer. The Web front-end joins the report server computer to a SharePoint farm.
Installing the Web front-end on the report server computer is only necessary if you deploy the report server and the SharePoint technology instance on separate computers.
2. For deployments that include placing the SharePoint databases on the same computer as the report server, configure the Report Server service to run under a domain account.
This step is only necessary if the report server and application databases are one computer, and the SharePoint Web application is on another computer.

Does this mean I have to create a New Web Application? new collection?
or could I use an existing Web Application? Creating only Collection?
What is(are) the pros/cons for each way if both are possible?
