SSRS Sparkline Report returns internal error when uploaded from file
Problem: In the course of deploying reports in our test environment we are getting an error with reports that have the sparkline charts in them. When a sparkline report is uploaded from a file (.rdl) to the reporting server, it will give the users an internal error. An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors The details simply say it was not able to set on an instance of an object. When the report is deployed using the deploy function in visual studio it works fine, however when the report is uploaded to the sever this error will consistently happen. Environment: The server is running Windows Sever 2008 with SQL 2008r2 enterprise. This is running both on the development and production servers. My local machine is running windows 7. The reports are built using Visual Studio 2010. The deploy settings on visual studio are set to deploy as SQL2008R2. Previous Testing: I have tested a number of items and changes. Ultimately I am able to create the problem if I upload a file from the reporting server from my pc. Uploading will result in an error and the report cannot be accessed or managed in any fashion. If the report is deployed from Visual Studio directly to the server the report functions correctly. I have been able to turn this problem on and off deploying with VS and deploying through a file upload. I have also compared the successfully deployed file to the file to be uploaded in a text comparison. They were identical files. Once a file is uploaded and is in the error state, I am not able to download that file (or manage the file) on the server. Why is this important: In our environment we are deploying reports to a development, and eventually a test server. Once they are correct our DBA is moving those files to the production server. The upload functionality is the best process (I am aware of) for that environment where we are just wanting to move a file into production. The deployment process with visual studio is not as straightforward of a workflow.

Hi There Thanks for your posting. as far as I know BIDS for the latest version (SQL Server 2008 R2) still uses VS 2008, and is not compatible with VS 2010. I would suggest you please deploy it from BIDS 2008 For more deatils Please have a look http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vsreportcontrols/thread/78bd6eb6-9d14-48e2-80eb-8c8e66b52534 If you have any questions please do ask. Hi Jake, If you upload a .rdl file to the report server instead of deployment, you need to configure the report data source and bind the report to the exact data source manually before you run the report.
