SSRS Report Won't Deploy
We're trying to deploy an SSRS report to the local host but are getting the following message: "The permissions granted to user (user name) are insufficient for performing this operation." We're using SQL Server 2008 R2 (64 bit) on Windows 2008. It's new, with no previous SSRS deployments. Thank you for your comments. Mark

Hi Mark, Try to open the application from which you are trying to deploy the reports as an Admin. For example, if you are deploying the reports from Visual Studio, open visual studio with option "Run as Administrator" and try deploying this. It should go through. Phani - Thanks for the comment and it worked. It seems strange that I need to "run as adminstrator" as I open BIDS. Is this expected? Are there other ways of getting it to deploy under my own domain? [Maybe I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.] Anyways, thanks again for such an easy (albeit strange) fix. Mark

Both Windows server 2008 and Windows 7 has this issue. I was trying for some workaround but invain. Earlier in Windows Vista also it has the same issue but there was a workaround i.e., to set a configuration which tells the system that the user is an admin. Not sure why the similar feature is not there in the latest operating systems. I am sure something should be there which is either not properly published or by design MS doesnt want to encourage this. Mark, We had similar issue, this is probably because our network logins(if you are using domain) dont have the SQL admin role. We did the following steps to resolve this. Connect to the database Expand Security, expand Logins, right-click and select New Login Enter your login with the domain controller Click on Server Roles, select sysadmin, click OK So now you are a sysadmin in the database. Hope this helps!Dinesh Behera

In my previous post I meant, once if you start the BIDS(run as admin) for the first time and then make yourself a sysadmin, then onwards it works fine. Worked for my team at least! Dinesh Behera If this post answers your question, please mark it as an Answer.
