SSRS 2008 authentication
Hi , I configured a SSRS 2008R2 on my local machine and I used "Local System" Option for Service Account. When I try to add a new user as system admin,(i.e... log onto the site,go to site settings - security and adding the user) the user is not able to enter into the site. Later I tried by removing the user's name from there and I added the same user to the home page as a content manager and it works. My Question is doesit make any difference as we go further and use the site?

Hi rahulSandy_sql, For a Report Server that is configured for native mode, we can use the Report Manager to assign users to a role. There are two types of roles, one the System-level role, the other is Item-level role. In the Site Setting->Security page, we assign a user or group to a System-level role. In the Home page->Folder Settings(or Properties), we assign a user or group to an Item-level role. System-level role assignments specify a collection of tasks that apply to the report server site as a whole. Item-level roles are used to view, add, and manage report server content, subscriptions, report processing, and report history. I think you also need set folder permision (content manager - for uploading, deleting, ect.; reader, ...the role you need for that person) on every folder in Reports if you assign user as a sysadmin. You can access this option by clickling on a each individual folder, if you don't have folders on a top menu - folder permission

Sorry I might have ask the question in a wrong way. Here I am rephrasing it. Is it necessary to go back to Item level roles and assign a role to a person for access to a particular item, after adding him to the site as Sysadmin in site level security. I am asking this because i had to do that.Pls let me know

Hi rahulSandy_sql, Yes, it is necessary to assign an Item-level role to users if they need to access the Report Manager. For more information about Setting Item-Level Permissions on a Report Server, please refer to the article below: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337471.aspx If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
