SSRS 2008 Security setup
Hi All, I am new to ssrs. I have created/deployed some reports in SSRS report folder. I would like the users to just view the reports in that folder and I have chosen 'browser' permission from the folder security and But then users were see all the other folders and site settings information.I have created new item level security 'report viewer' with 'view reports' and 'modify reports' and new system role with 'execute report rights' but then they have received the access denied error. Could you please advise how can i assign the report read only rights to users. Thanks Hsac

But then users were see all the other folders Hello Hsac, The right are inherited from root down to all folders. If you want the user to see only one folder, you have to break-up the inheritance. Open a folder, where the user don't should get permission, edit the security permission and remove the user/usergroup.Olaf Helper * cogito ergo sum * errare humanum est * quote erat demonstrandum * Wenn ich denke, ist das ein Fehler und das beweise ich tglich Blog Xing

Hi Hsac, For the first question, please follow Olafs suggestion to break the permissions inheritance on the folders that you dont want the user to see. For the second question, the Access Denied error message occurs because the users dont have the permission to view folders. To avoid the issue, please add the View folders task to the custom Item-level role. References: How to: Grant User Access to a Report ServerItem-Level Tasks Regards, Mike Yin
