SSRS 2008 R2 & SSRS 2008 compatibility
Hi all, I shall start soon to install a SSRS 2008 R2 server, this server shall replace the existing SSRS 2008 server. I would like to know if it's ossible to connect the SSRS 2008 R2 to the actual SSRS 2008 databases unless there is an impact on it. I have to test the new install before switching to it and do not want to disturb the production. Thanks you for your help. Regards

The actual SSRS 2008 Report Server Databases will be upgraded to SSRS 2008 R2. Please see below(from upgrade technical reference guide). Starting in SQL Server 2005 SP2, the Report Server service is able to auto-detect the version of the report server database and upgrade it to the schema that matches the version of the current report server instance. When an older version of the database is detected, you are automatically asked if you want to upgrade. If you proceed to upgrade the report server database, the schema is updated to the new format, and you cannot roll it back to a previous format. Because of the new auto-upgrade feature, you no longer need to create a database upgrade script and there is no need for a manual upgrade option in the Reporting Services Configuration tool. In SQL Server 2008 and later releases, the button to create the script and the button that performs the upgrade action are removed from the Database Setup page in the Reporting Services Configuration tool. Hello casimor, Thanks for your response. If you connect SSRS 2008 R2 upgraded DB, then you will encounter the error when you access the web site. It will remind you that the version in not expected. Therefore, we cannot use the upgraded DB directly, unless the two RS versions are same. I tested it on my side. Maybe you can test it on your side. I hope it is helpful to you. If you have any questions, please tell me freely. Regards, EdwardEdward Zhu TechNet Community Support
