SSRS 2008 - Extra Line feed at bottom of exported file using csv renderer
Hi Using SSRS 2008 and exporting data using the csv renderer, I notice that there is an extra line feed at the end of the data files, causing a blank line to occur at the bottom of the file. eg lastdatarecordxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<linefeed> <linefeed> Is there any way that this extra linefeed at the bottom can be turned off? Many thanks

Hi, I have tried to reproduce the issue you mentioned. However, the linefeed won't happen. This issue should be caused by the layout of the report. So, to fix the issue, please check the report in design mode. Please check if there is any object will cause the issue. If possible, you could send the report to us to reproduce the issue. That will help us to solve the issue. You can send the file to sqltnsp AT microsoft.com(replace AT with @) with the followin format: Subject: Thread:<ThreadTitle> Body: Jin, <Thread URL> Please feel free to ask, if you have any more questions. Hi This problem occurs on all the reports. When I export these to a csv format (or any format which uses the csv renderer) they all have an extra blank line at the bottom when opened up in notepad (and also in Textpad). The data files I export are based on very simple reports with just a table in the design layout and no other objects. I will send an example across to the above email address as you suggest, using the AdventureWorksDW database. Many thanks Jane

Hi Jane, Thank you for your mail, and sorry for my misunderstood in my first post. The issue described is by design. If you would like to remove the linefeed, I would suggest you submit a feedback at http://connect.microsoft.com Connect site is a connection point between you and Microsoft, and ultimately the larger community. Jin\Jane - I am also having this issue. Have you heard anything news on your feedback on this issue? We have exports from 2005 that deliver a file for another company to then import but it is blowing up on their end because of the extra line feed. So this is hindering our upgraded from 2005 to 2008 SSRS until we can get this fixed. Thanks, Brian

Hello all we too are having this same issue. We submit a csv invoice to an automated webURL that parses the file and sends us a result. This additional CR and LF is blowing up the parser on their end. I have had to setup an instance of sql 2005 rs for just this one process. Was there some benefit to putting this extra CR and LF to the end of a csv file as I cannot see any reason to add this as a feature.. Also Jane did you end up putting any feedback on the connect website as I would like to echo your feedback post.

Jane, if you can post a link to your connect post, I would add my vote on this. Jin Chen, do you know why it is by design? i.e. what is the purpose of having two line feeds at the end of a csv file? SSMS import generate a warning saying the last line is not formated adequatly every time I try to import a file generated from SSRS. Access imports an empty rows at the end. Why would it be a desired behaviour?
