SSRS 2005 login prompt defaults to host server as domain
Hi, I have an unusual problem. I have SSRS 2005 SP2 running on a Windows Server 2003 (Server A). When I try to access the SSRS site from a different Windows Server 2003 server (Server B), I get a login prompt with the SSRS server name as the domain name plus my login id, ex: ServerA\adminlogin instead of MyDomain\adminlogin which is what I'm logged into Server B with. I have configured IE to automatically use the current user login and password so I think that the prompt is occurring because for some reason, the domain being used with my login id is not the domain name but the server name that hosts SSRS. Currently the application pool runs under Network Service. The IIS was already installed before I installed SSRS so I don't know it's history for sure but I did the SSRS installation and there were no surprises. The Reports and ReportServer sites are under the Default Web Site and it is configured to use Windows integrated authentication. If I change the domain in the login prompt dialog to MyDomain, I get connected just fine. When I access the SSRS site from an XP workstation, it properly uses MyDomain and authenticates just fine. So, this leads me to suspect something about the configuration of Server B is causing the problem but I haven't a clue what it could be. I'm hoping somebody out there might know what is causing this issue. Many thanks in advance for your thoughts and assistance. Regards, Linda

Hi Linda, To set up auto authentication, follow these steps: 1. On the server, open Internet Explorer(IE) 2. Click the menu "Tools" -> "Internet Options" 3. Go to "Security" tab. 4. Select "Trusted sites" or "Intranet sites" zone. 5. Click "Add" to add the report server site to this zone. 6. Click "Custom Level" and then check "Auto logon with current username and password" to authenticate automatically. 7. Click "OK" to apply. Now, try to connect SSRS on server A to see whether the login box is prompted. Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry, Thanks very much for the response but unfortunately, I've already done what you have suggested and it doesn't work. I have two theories at this point: Either the current login id and password are failing to authenticate for some reason (even though this same login works fine on an XP workstation) The credentials being passed to SSRS are the wrong ones in that the SSRS host name is being used instead of the user's proper domain name. Unfortunately, I don't know how to tell which one it is much less how to solve it. Regards, Linda
