SSRS 2005 Heading Repeat problem.
I have a SSRS 2005 report using a table to display data. I am using a parameter to change visibility of the first column depending upon the sort selected, so I am also using group headings to display the column headings (instead of a page heading) so that the column headings line up properly whether the first column is displayed or not. The group heading lines are marked to repeat, and one contains a dataset field as heading information. The table has multiple detail lines defined, and the last line contains a text field (memo field) which can contain LOTS of data. If this field contains enough data that it takes an entire report page, the group heading is not displayed on this page, so all the column headings are gone for this page. That is my problem. There is a lot going on in this report, and the design, as it stands now, accomplishes all I need (dataset field in heading, optional column display with headings, proper sorting and breaking) with the exception of when this text field fills an entire page...in this case, the headings disappear. Any thoughts on getting around this? Thanks!

Hi im_bmw, Could you please give some snapshot to clarify your requirement, currently, I am not sure why you use the group header to display the column header. Does the group header disappear when in the new page? You could post a picture to demonstrate the scenario, which is a big help for our further assistance. Methods for uploading the picture: 1. Upload the picture to a website http://skydriver.live.com 2. View the picture in the website. 3. Right-click the picture, and then select “Copy” 4. In reply window, select “Paste” to paste the picture into a post. Thanks, Challen Fu

In the time between my original post, and your reply, I rearranged again, and went to using a page header again. Without posting the screen prints, I was using group headings because having a 4 column report, with columns A, B, C, and D, the user is able to select format 1, which hides column A, or format 2 which shows it. I have re-done this to use two rectangles containing appropriately positioned text boxes for headings that I hide or show as needed. My report details section looks something like this, with field4 and field5 being SQL text fields which can contain a lot of information: detail: field1 field2 field3 detail: field4 (merged cells) field 5 (merged cells) Anyway, I am still having several problems that I assume are product issues: 1. When Field4 or Field5 are relatively large, the reporter ejects to a new page before beginning to print the text. Occasionally, when the field is low enough on the page, it will start on the current page without ejecting, however. 2. When Field4 is large enough to span multiple pages but Field5 is not, Field5 is repeated on subsequent pages..for example, page 2 may have a full page of field4 content, but only a few lines of field5 content. Page 3 continues field4 content, but duplicates field5 content instead of showing up blank. NOTE: I do not see this problem when I execute in SSRS2008. 3. In the case when field4 takes up an entire page, no group headings are displayed on that page. 4. I am using field3 to store a value to be shown in the page header, with a ReportItems!field3.Value. when field4 takes an entire page, I get a blank in the heading, because field3 is not on the given page. Because the value of field3 changes throughout the report, I cannot use a report parameter to pass the value to the page header. Help, thoughts, or confirmation that these are product limitations would be appreciated.

Any further comment on this Challen, or another Microsoft Rep, would be greatly appreciated.
