SSRS 2005 - Using email aliases in report subscriptions - possible?
Hi I have created some report subscriptions (not data driven). These are emailing the reports to me and some other people within the organisation. We are all in the same domain as the SQL server and the Report Server. The only issue is that I cannot get the subscriptions to deliver anything if I use domain email aliases within the 'To:' field on the subscription, eg my alias is 'NA01'. If I create a subscription to deliver to 'NA01' I dont receive anything. But if I create a subscription to deliver to my full email address, it works and I get the subscription. Is it possible to change this so that aliases work as well? I need to send reports to multiple recipients usually, not just to myself. Thanks for all help Naz

Reporting Services includes an e-mail delivery extension that provides a way to e-mail a report to individual users or groups. The e-mail delivery extension is configured through the Reporting Services Configuration tool and by editing the Reporting Services configuration files. please check here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms160334.aspx http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157386.aspxhttp://uk.linkedin.com/in/ramjaddu

Thanks for the replies guys. I have already read these pages before, and they are no help. The users I will be sending reports to, is variable - ie not a fixed list. So I cant send to a domain user group. The problem is that I cannot send to email aliases - I have to enter the full email address for each recipient. I would have thought that I could just enter the account alias and it would get sent to them. But it doesnt work. Is there a way to configure settings to ensure that Report Server/SQL Server (whichever is responsible I suppose) uses LDAP to look up the account alias I enter in the subscription and finds the corresponding email address, then uses that address? Cheers

Hi Naz at ANSA, Currently, we have to type in the complete email address and make use of (;) to separate multiple e-mail addresses, if you do not want to type in so many recipients' email addresses, I would recommend you utilize Data-driven subscription to achieve this requirement, you could store all the recipients' e-mail address in database table in advance, you could also modify this table's value to change recipients, so it is very flexible, when you set delivery option, for the To option, just click Get the value from the database, and then select the column name, which store e-mail adress. However here I still would recommend you to submit a feedback to Microsoft Connect at this link at this link https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback This connect site is a connection point between you and Microsoft, and ultimately the larger community. Your feedback enables Microsoft to make software and services the best that they can be, and you can learn about and contribute to exciting projects. The way I understand data driven subscriptions, the subscription will go to all of the emails in the database where the emails are stored, correct? The problem with this is that if I create a database with a list of all the email addresses for everyone in the company, I would want the subscription to only go to some of those people. Some reports go to certain people, other reports go to other people. So does this mean I need to create a new email database for each group of people I want to send different reports to?

I am not sure why you need to create a new email database for each group of people, just create a different table to store the persons you want to send the email, you mentioned "some reports go to certain people, other reports go to other people", you could create two tables with different persons' whole email address for there two report separately. You unmark my reply, you should understand this is a product limitation. My reply is just a workaround for you not a grace solution, I also recommend you submit a feedback to Microsoft, I think your feedback will enable Microsoft to make software and services the best that they can be.Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.
