SSRS: Cascading parameters do not always refresh
Hi, I am testing some reports I developed. I have some cascading parameters. After playing with them for a while, I noticed that they don't always refresh when I change the top parameters which drive down to the bottom ones. I went into parameter property and specified it to be " always fresh". They still don't seem to refresh. I don't think my query data is the issue. for I tested in Query designer inputing the parameter values there and results are good. Why don't they work in the parameter mode? Any ideas?

Hi Ann,sadly Parameters only get re-evaluated if they become invaild,so if your fist parameter picks say letters and the 2nd paramets gives a choice ofA ticked B tickedC tickedYou then change the fist parameter to allow Letters andnumbersYourselection might beA ticked B tickedC ticked1 unticked2untickedRobert

yeap, that seems to be what I have noticed as well. First I thought there was something wrong with my query or code of some sort.

Solution Found!!! The long-standing issue with cascading parameters in SSRS is that when changing the selection of the parent parameter, the default selection of the dependent parameter is not always automatically changed. After a considerable amount of R&D and considering the report cache, I have found a solution/workaround which not only solves the issue at hand, but also addresses up to 4 levels of cascading.
