SSP problems - cannot access managessp.aspx
Hi ,Can anyone please help! We have had some issues with our Search completly stop working and I have tried to resolve it but as such doing some db restores Ive also managed to break our SSP. I now cannot access managessp.aspx I get the following error:An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. We have two SSP's I can access both of there administration pages. The first SSP has 8 applications associated with it and the second has 3. It would be usefull If I could move the 3 from the second SSP to the first and delete the second SSP.Anyone know how you move applications between SSP's via stsamnMany ThanksMarcus

Hello Marcus, This issue is a little complex and we may need some steps to narrow down the problems scope. Please do it via the following instructions: 1. Check the status of Search services in the Services on the server page. If it doesnt run correctly, please restart it. 2. If Step 1 fails, try to use another account with enough permission to restart the services. 3. If Step 2 fails, please restart the Timer Services on the Services.msc on the server. 4. If Step 3 fails, let us know the result; If it succeeds, go to the Services on the server page again, try to stop the Office Server Search services. 5. If it succeeds, go to Step 8; Otherwise, backup and delete all the index file under the %programfiles%\Microsoft Office Servers\12.0\Data\Office Server\Applications (This is by default, please use the correct location if you use other folder before.) 6. Use the following command-line to stop the search services again: stsadm -o osearch -action stop 7. Confirm if the service is stopped correctly from the UI. 8. Open the services.msc to stop the office search. Stopped it there and made it manual. 9. Stop the Windows SharePoint Search Service from Central admin and Services.msc. 10. Try to restart the services again and create a new database. Let us know the result of the steps above. Thanks. Best Regards, Lionel Chen

Lionel ,Many thanks for your reply I managed to access this page by deleting the SSP using stsadm however search is totally borked!I have tried restarting the search service under different accounts the errors I get are:pSharedServices1: Search administration Crawl status The search application for 'SharedServices1' on server SERVER1 is not provisioned. Confirm that the Windows SharePoint Services Timer service and Windows SharePoint Services Administration service are running on the server. Items in index Error Propagation status Error Default content access account Error Default Access Account:The search service is currently offline. Visit the Services on Server page in SharePoint Central Administration to verify whether the service is enabled. This might also be because an indexer move is in progress. Event viiewer:Office Server Shared Services EventID 6482 Reason: Could not access the Search service configuration database Office Server Search EventID 10034 Context: Application 'f1a1ed8e-dc82-441e-86b0-46940595d7f7' Details: Permission denied. (0x80040e09) Relevent permissions are applied on the SSP and Database this used to work fine , could this be caused by different versions of MOSS on the two servers? Unable to upgrade our database server to the sqame patch level as our web server with constant fails applying post SP2 hotfix.Marcus

Hi Lionel and everyone! I dont know if you finally found how to fix that but i got the same bug problem on my prod env. I tried to stop my wss search service using stsadm -o spsearch -action stop , that stoped, but i can't get it started !!!!My search do not want longer to start. using stsadm or central admin. I tried to make another ssp, new database.. nothing works! I just desesparate right now. Crawl Status: The search application for 'SharedServices2' on server "myserver" is not provisioned. Confirm that the Windows SharePoint Services Timer service and Windows SharePoint Services Administration service are running on the server. If i go on CrawlSource: The search service is currently offline. Visit the Services on Server page in SharePoint Central Administration to verify whether the service is enabled. This might also be because an indexer move is in progress. If i try to start it manualy by central admin/Services on server and start the service im setting up a new database and it powww.. WSS_Search_NS029201 on ns3928302 contains user-defined schema. Databases must be empty before they can be used. Delete all of the tables, stored procedures and other objects or use a different database. If i remove everything in the bd and i try once again, it shows me a NO FILE FOUND error .. I don't know how to fix it ! Somebody can ? Thank you very much !
