SSO options for SharePoint 2013

Greetz!

We are using a claims based SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with a single web app and multiple host named site collectoins with their own URL. We have customer logging in from all over the country to a particular URL. Each time an employee in our company navigates to a new URL in our farm they are prompted to login again. An employee might be responsible for 3 or 4 different sites. What are our options for getting rid of this behavior and having a single sign on experience? My original thought was to use ADFS but my boss shot it down. Are there other , perhaps less clean ways to accomplish this?

Why was ADFS shot down?

This can be done using Web Application Proxy + ADFS. Otherwise, add the parent domain to the Intranet Zone in IE using Group Policy. This will only be applicable for domain-joined machines where the user's log in with their domain credentials.

No good reason. My first network plan included wap and adfs but a much less secure solution was chosen. I had my internal folks add the domain to their trusted sites and all is well...at least until we want our external users to hit more than one domain!
