SSIS Version Control - Can the Smart Diff feature of the BIDS Helper VS add-in be activated without VSS Check-In of SSIS Package?
Specifically, my question relates to the requirement of the Smart Diff feature of the BIDS Helper VS add-in, namely, that it can be activated only if the client is VSS or TFS Source Control. If one had Visual Source Safe installed on one's system, but did not use it to manage SSIS Packages, i.e., the latter are not Checked-In to VSS, can the Smart Diff feature be operable?

This is all documented on the SmartDiff features help page http://bidshelper.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Smart%20Diff&referringTitle=Home SmartDiff originally required SourceSafe or TFS clients be installed, but as of version 1.4.2.2 this is no longer a requirement and you can specify your own diff viewer in the preferences pages. And even in the versions prior to 1.4.2.2 you did not need to have the solution bound to source control, we just need the client tools to get the diff viewer. PS. Questions specifically about BIDSHelper are probably best asked on the projects discussion forums at http://bidshelper.codeplex.comhttp://geekswithblogs.net/darrengosbell - please mark correct answers
