SSIS Execution Order
Hi Guys, Just want to confirm my understanding of any given SSIS [2005/2008] package execution order. Mentioned below is my understanding of sequence of events which occur when a package is executed. Step 1: SSIS package configurations are loaded in package variables and package connection managers. Step 2: Pre-Execution validations of Control Flow and Data Flow tasks. Connection managers itself are NOT validated, instead the tasks which uses them are validated. Step 3: Run time execution of Control Flow and Data Flow tasks. In between Step 2 & 3, other events may occur such as package Logging, user defined event handlers etc. Can anybody please guide or confirm above understanding? Also please feel encouraged to add if I have missed anything. Thanks, Pulkit Ojha Microsoft Business Intelligence Developer

Hello Pulkit, Step 1 is not exactly that, the config values versa design values are loaded differently order-wise in SSIS 2005 vs later versions. See http://dougbert.com/blog/post/understand-how-ssis-package-configurations-are-applied.aspx Also consult this post: http://consultingblogs.emc.com/jamiethomson/archive/2005/01/13/SSIS_3A00_-Event-occurence-order.aspx Connections do get validated before anything runs. The logging starts as soon as possible, but depends on what you decided to log.Arthur My Blog
