SSIS 2005 Package running on SQL Server 2008
Can you run an SSIS Package developed in BIDS 2005 on a server running SQL Server 2008? I can't find any documentation on the Microsoft site noting a yay or nay to this question. If you know of an article please provide a link. Thanks,

Hi,Does that SSIS 2005 project have SSISDeploymentManifest file? If so, we can use that deployment wizard to deploy the SSIS 2005 package into the 2008 server. As for how to create SSISDeploymentManifest file, please refer tohttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141034.aspxhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141693.aspxPlease feel free to let me know if I’ve misunderstood anything. Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. I think the question is not whether migrating 2005 packages into 2008 or not. It is about being able to run 2005 packages on 2008 server.

Yes, you can, but there may be some glitches. For example : OLEdb client is different from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008, 3rd party SSIS components are not the same on SSIS 2005 and SSIS 2008. Sebastian Sajaroff Senior DBA Pharmacies Jean Coutu

The answer is yes, because SSIS 2008 performs an in-place upgrade for the earlier build (right at the time you import it to the package store, or at the time you ask DTExec to run it off the file system specifically).Arthur My Blog
