SQL server CPU utilization staying above 90%

Just last week we upgraded to SP1.  We now have our sql server CPUs both stayingin the mid 90% range.  The SCCM server itself rarely goes above 5% CPU Utilization.  Stopping Sms_executive service stops the high performance, so I know it is SCCM related.  Are there recomendations as to what I should be looking at to find the cause and solution?

Physical or virtual? How many clients? Did you limit the amount of RAM SQL can use?

So after about 2 hours it dropped to a more normal levels.  What would be the easiest way to figure out what was running at that time?

Virtual. Only 300 clients right now as we are migrating from an older version.  Limited to 8GB of RAM for SQL.

On what virtual environment is your SQL Server running? Hyper-V, VMware ESXi, or other?

I'll suggest that you look into MP replicas. I have seen SQL freak out several times do to different Things like maintenance tasks, Collection updates, software update evaluation refresh (by default runs 1 pr. hour) and policy downloades. You can mitigate some of that by adding MP replicas and move some of all the client processing from the SQL box to your Management Points.

The DBA came back with the following...

"the SQL session with the most CPU at that time was running a specific stored procedure called spDrsSummarizeSendHistory.  It was running from MD1-NM20, and the application name is SMS_REPLICATION_CONFIGURATION_MONITOR.  The suspended session were waiting to run several delete commands and a merge."

Loking at the replmgr.log Idont see anything that seems out of the ordinary.  Any thoughts?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but Im trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.
