SQL cluster does NOT hold the site database role. That role is held directly by the SQL nodes: Bad!
My System Status is red and I believe this is the problem: The SQL cluster that hosts the site database does NOT hold the site database role. That role is held directly by the SQL nodes. I am fairly new to SCCM and I am learning (the hard way) as i go. I am getting numerous errors but I believe that these two are more likely to hold the answer (s). Error Detail SMS Site Component Manager could not create the SMS server components' installation directory "H:\SMS_XXX-SCCM" on site system "\\XXX-SecondSQLNode" or set the correct permissions on the directory. The operating system reported error 67: The network name cannot be found. Error Milestone SMS Site Component Manager failed to reconfigure site system "\\XXX- SecondSQLNode " to receive SMS server components. A similar problem (I think) is described here: http://verbalprocessor.com/2008/02/01/sccm-sql-cluster-problem/ I am on the right track? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you are. Make sure SPN, Kerberos etc is configured correctly as described in the blog post.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Hi, During setup, you must enter the name of the virtual SQL Server cluster instance, and not the virtual Windows Server name created by the Windows Server cluster. Installing the site database using the Windows Server cluster virtual instance name will result in the site database being installed on the local hard drive of the active Windows Server cluster node, and it will prevent successful failover if that node fails. Try following steps to see whether it can fix your issue: 1. Please take site back up using SCCM site Maintenance task. 2. Once the backup is finished, please run the site reset on the site server. 3. This will ask for SQL server name and the DATABASE name. a. Provide the SQL cluster virtual name in the page and the SQL database name. 4. Finish in the Site Reset. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Thank you Eric and Kent for your responses. I did use the virtual SQL server cluster instance during setup (and yesterday again during a site reset), I am almost positive that my problem is the SPN for the SQL Cluster. I am just waiting for our Domain Admin to fix the SPN issue. I will report back. Thanks

I followed the blog post and configured my SPN's, Kerberos and everything I have found online that needs to be checked. Performed a site reset as instructed by Microsoft but still having the same problem. ConfigMgrSetup.Log does not report any issues. SCCM works fine even when I shut down one of the SQL nodes (It fails over with not problems to the other nodes the way it is supposed to) yet the sql cluster does not hold the site database role, the nodes do :-(.
