SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2008 R2?
So maybe this is a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway (because I honestly don't know the answer). Almost every guide I've seen so far for setting up SCCM 2012 says to use SQL Server 2008 (SP2 or R2) as your database of choice for SCCM 2012. I see SCCM 2012 RTM is now out on Volume Licensing. I also see that SQL Server 2012 was just released as well. Since I'm about to build my SCCM server from scratch I'd like to make it as current as possible. Should I go ahead and try to build it out with SQL Server 2012 or just be conservative and stick with SQL Server 2008 R2?.

Hi, SQL 2012 is not supported with SCCM 2012, it normally takes 60-90 days after a release of SQL including Service Packs before it is supported. So if you are installing now SQL 2012 is not an option, keep an eye on Supported Configurations for SCCM 2012, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigSQLSrvReq Regards, Jrgen-- My System Center blog ccmexec.com -- Twitter @ccmexec

I figured the answer would be something like that, I just wanted to make sure. Also i'm glad you replied to my post. I actually owe you a 2nd "thank you" for this post: http://ccmexec.com/2012/04/unattended-installation-of-the-configmgr-2012-pre-reqs/ I used that earlier today to set up all my prerequisites. Very handy little batch script!

Well, not stated as being supported but some parts can be installed on SQL 2012, like the central admin site, no errors whatsoever during installation using local SQL 2012. I will report about the other roles as I get there. Update: also the Primary site can be installed on SQL 2012, no issues MVH Marko Franken, MCITP: SQL Server 2008

The Primary site installs fine on a SQL 2012 cluster, although when adding a reporting point the field for the SRS instance is unpopulated so cannot be completed. It verifies connectivity to the site DB OK but won't populate the SRS field when the SRS instance is on a 2012 node or a standalone SQL 2008 instance. I guess when it's supported this might work....(or I've done something wrong!) Simon.
