SQL Reporting: Report Printing Orientation
I am maintaining an Official Receipt (OR) report layout for a client. Previously the Paper Size is Letter, the Orientation is Portrait. The OR prints on one half of the Letter sized paper and ejects. Now the client wants to use a 10in by 5.5in custom paper size. The problem is, the size forces the orientation of the form to Landscape. How do i keep the Portrait orientation while using the 10in by 5.5in custom paper size? Your suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks.

Regards, Gayathri devi P.S. : Please click the 'Mark as Answer' button if a post solves your problem! :) What do you mean by this? Because the application where the report is called works like this: Click on the Print button and the Report Viewer will call the report for the Official Receipt, which can then be printed or exported. My main concern is on the Printing. The client wants the Orientation and the Paper Size setup already to their specification and all they need to do is click the Print again to proceed to printing.

How do i keep the Portrait orientation while using the 10in by 5.5in custom paper size INSIDE THE REPORT? This is normally accomplished by selecting the BODY of the Report, then going to the Report Properties and changing the Paper Size there. Please note that when setting the PAPER SIZE, if the Width value is made greater than the Height value, the ORIENTATION of the report BECOMES LANDSCAPE AUTOMATICALLY. I don't want that to happen. How do i keep the Orientation of the report layout as PORTRAIT while still having the paper size set to 10in WIDTH and 5.5in HEIGHT? This is like having a LETTER SIZE paper cut in half where you can print 2 ORs on one LETTER SIZE paper. The client does not want to make any configurations or changes in the Page Setup. I am hoping to set this up INSIDE the Report. Is this possible?

Please note that if the client need to go to the Page Setup to configure everytime they need to print an Official Receipt, they will be issuing tons of ORs per day and going to the PAGE SETUP to reconfigure the print everytime they want an OR printed is a very big hassle. I am hoping that this can be handled on the Report Properties setting side to that all the client need to do is print... and print... and print... without going to the Page Setup. Is this possible? Am i missing a setting on the report? Or is this a Microsoft Reporting Services limitation?

Hi Miles, The Portrait indicates that the page is longer vertically, the Landscape indicates that the page is longer horizontally. In your case, you set the Width to “10in” and the Height to “5.5in”, the orientation will convert the Portrait to Landscape automatically. The orientation is decided by the Width and Height. In your case, I’m afraid that we cannot get the Portrait orientation when we set the Width greater than the Height. There is an article about Landscape vs Portrait, please see: http://www.athleticaid.com/yaquinapress/landscape.html Thanks, Bin LongPlease remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.
