SQL MP version 6.1.314.36 Query
Hi
We have upgraded our SQL MP version to 6.1.314.36. As our action account doesn't had SA privilege we saw lot of errors. I went to Kevin's blog and checked we need SA access to monitor the SQL MP. As DB team is not interested to provide the SA access and
its not also best practice from DB end i am worried. The database team wants me to monitor SQL R2 without SA access. Help us on this.

Hi Donald
No matter which version of the SQL MP you use, monitoring of the SQL Servers requires SQL Sysadmin privileges. Its just that you now get specific alerts if the action account doesn't have those rights.
If the SQL team want to leverage the full functionality of the SQL MP then the Run As Account needs SQL SysAdmin rights. There is no workaround for that other than for them to write their own management pack. Even then, any monitoring that
requires SysAdmin rights would require a Run As Account with those privileges.
It is the DBAs choice - either have a run as account with SysAdmin rights and monitor SQL or don't have a run as account with SysAdmin rights and accept \ understand \ appreciate that you won't get all the monitoring functionality of the SQL MP. Sadly the
functionality you lose from not having Sysadmin isn't documented anywhere.
