How to rename SQL instance ?

There is no way you can rename your SQL Sever Instance. What you could do is Uninstall and install back again with the required name. If you let us know the requirement for changing the name, we could help you with suggestions

This will break existing replication, mirroring and other configurations. Please refer to the link Alberto Morillo shared which has all details.
