SQL 2008 R2 Reporting Service Starts and Stops with error - Service cannot be started. System.Exception: Default appdomain failed to initialize.
I have tried everything described in http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/is/sqlreportingservices/thread/2fd1603c-14d2-475e-8399-5d7af2aa55f0 as well as: 1. Delete and recreate the Service user that SQL Agent, SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, & all the other SQL server services are using. This user has the rights to read and write SPN in active directory as well. 2. Changed the ssrs to run under localsystem, network authority, local admin, domain admin, it doesn't work under any account 3. ran the repair from the install disk 4. tried running the ssrs configuration program and switching service users, etc, but I do get the error that reporting services is not running. The only thing I have not done is uninstall SQL Server and delete all regkeys and reinstall. I have to do this during a maintenance window so I want to get as many ideas as I can before I have to work on this again, it is very frustrating, I have never had so many problems with reporting services. I have had many that had problems, but were always able to fix. Scott Emick

Did you try this one: In msconfig -> General-> select Diagnostic Start Up and in services-> just tick SQL Server services including Reporting ServicesChange the Reporting Services' user to an Administrator userRestart If it works, that means there is something that interrupts or prevents Reporting Services running. Share the results please. CheersMCP, MCTS, MCITP

What ended up being the problem was this: I edited the rsreportserver.xml file and found 3 semicolons in the beginning position of 3 different lines. I don't know if an automated tool put those there or a humanm, but really I would be the only one to edit that file and I didn't put those there. Anway, I removed the garbage and everything works ok now.Scott Emick
