Hi, This is regarding sharepoint timer service. the error i am keep getting that it is unavailable. when creating a new Shared services provider or trying to start a back job (process) from central administration, we keep seeing this error. details around the issue, after successfully installing SQL Server and MOSS on a same machine, we wanted to change the service account for Sharepoint Services. we went ahead and changed the accounts manually on Windows Sharepoint Services, then we started seeing this problem. did anybody have similar issue before? please advise. thanks much in advance.

The SSP service account is usually the account that is also used to run specific types of jobs. While I'm not sure about the specific error you're encountering, you could run though a few steps to help troubleshoot. First, on the Windows server, go to Administrator Tools -> Services. From there, double check that the Windows SharePoint Services Timer server has been started. Also, double check the identity of which the service runs under. Right-click the service, and go to the "Log On" tab. This should be the same service account as your SSP service account. For more details about the proper service accounts, please look at: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=92883&clcid=0x409 Second, you can also examine SharePoint's ULS logs to view additional information about these errors. You can usually find them at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\LOGS. If the logs aren't giving you enough information, you can throttle SharePoint's events. More information here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288649%28office.12%29.aspx Third, you could also examine the event logs of the Windows server to see if the same error is being thrown. Sometimes you can get a really helpful error code that you can google. I hope this helps!http://donahoo-development.com

Another thoughts The admin service getting stuck usually relates to accounts being changed and the SID's not synchronising or to the domain accounts you are using to run the farm are incorrectly cached in the configuration cache - requiring a cache flush. There might be some other reason, but I would try this one first. There is instructions on chce flushing here: http://tomblog.insomniacminds.com/2008/07/30/sharepoint-internals-clearing-configuration-cache-caveat/ hope this will works thanks -wsi am at SharePoint administrator
