All of a sudden my portal application is reading this under a subsite: --------------------- An error occured while rendering navigation for requested URL : /. Exception message: object reference not set to an instance of an object. stack trace: atMicrosoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.SPNavigationSiteMapNode.UpdateSPNavigationNode(SP NavigationNode node, SPNavigationNode previous, String name, String url, String description, String target, String audience, Boolean forceCreate) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.CmsSecurityUtilities.RunWithAllowUnsafeUpdate(SPWeb web, CodeToRun secureCode) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalWebSiteMapNode.PopulateNavigationChildren() at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalSiteMapNode.GetNavigationChildren(Node Types includedTypes, NodeTypes includedHiddenTypes, OrderingMethod ordering, AutomaticSortingMethod method, Boolean ascending, Int32 lcid) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalSiteMapNode.GetNavigationChildren(Node Types includedHiddenTypes) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalSiteMapProvider.GetChildNodes(PortalSiteMap Node node, NodeTypes includedHiddenTypes) --------------------- What would cause this problem? How can I fix the issue?

Do you have any custom code on the page? which versin of Sharepoint are you running?
