SP2013 SP1 - SQL 2014 supportability question

Hi everyone!

We recently migrated SP2013 with SP1 databases from SQL 2012 to SQL 2014. While I am aware that the April 2014 CU is recommended/required for a new farm installation on SQL2014, I haven't found any info regarding moving existing databases.

Everything seems to work fine while still on patchlevel SP1. Is it therefore absolutely necessary to upgrade to the latest build?

Hi Fizzerd,

If you do not install April 2014 CU for SharePoint 2013 with SQL Server 2014, the User Profile Service may not work properly.

Please check the link below:

And the latest CU for SharePoint will make SharePoint more perfect and improve many functions or features.

So I recommend you to install the latest CU for SharePoint.

Thanks,

Victoria

Hey Victoria,

Thanks!

Luckily we are not running UPS but is it safe to go from SP1 directly to June 2015 CU in that case?

Hi Fizzerd,

Yes, it is safe to install June 2015 CU after installing SP1.

You'd better install the CU in your test environment before installing it to Product environment.

Thanks,

Victoria
