SP2007 Doc Info Panel (Person or Group column) and Word 2010
I have a SharePoint 2007 Document Library with many columns. Some of the columns are of type Person or Group.
When a user opens the document in the Word 2007 the Person or Group column contains the correct user name, however when the same document is opened in Word 2010 the Person or Group column contains a number (e.g. 39) and not the name.
Anyone know what is causing this?

Hi Sonners,
It is really a strange problem.
Do the Person or Groups field a default column like Modified By column or a custom column added by you?
If it is the default column, please check if it is a display name of a user by clicking the number and see where it will link to. Or go to Central
Administration > SharedServices > User Profile and Properties > View user Profiles to check if the number is a name of a user.
If it is a custom column, could you please elaborate how you get the users name in this field?
Best regards,
Emir

This is a custom column of type Person or Group.
The same column contents looks different depending on whether the user is viewing it in Word 2007 or Word 2010.
In Word 2007 it displays the correct name Firstname Lastname.
In Word 2010 it displays a number underlined with a red wiggly line. This happens quite often but not all the time.
The User Profiles are set up correctly in CA, and have been used without any issues for >2 years. This issue has only appeared since Word 2010 was introduced to the office.

This is still an issue and is becoming a real problem as more people are adopting MSOffice 2010.
The people picker is still resolving itself as a number. It doesn't appear to be a problem with other site collections.

I still have not resolved this and it is now happening with Office 2007 users.
I think I may have to recreate the whole site collection!

Rebuilding it won't do anything, it's an issue with data types and what you're submitting back the Document Library
The red line suggests that you're trying to send back an incompatible datatype. 2010 is confusing the ID of your choice with the actual display value and is tryign to submit the wrong item back.
Have you created a custom DIP for your content types?Steven Andrews | SharePoint Professional | http://www.twitter.com/backpackerd00d | https://baron72.wordpress.com/

Hi Steven
It's the default Document Information Panel, nothing custom at all.
The problem happens when a Word 2010 user opens the Document to make their changes and the Person or Group column in the DIP appears with an ID and not a name. This makes it impossible for a Word 2010 user to save the doc as the column won't accept
the number.
However if you just view the properties of the doc via the SP GUI, the data is correct. It just appears incorrectly in the DIP.
I don't know what else to try other than rebuilding the site collection!

Have you tried the DIP in other Office 2010 applications? If not, please give a shot and advise what happens
Have you access to InfoPath and running SharePoint Enterprise? If so, you'll be able to generate a new XSN file to replace the default one and see f you can fix the issue
Are there any custom columns within your document library?
