SMS to SCCM Client Upgrade - I'm Stuck
SMS 2003 is our current production environment. We did a side-by-side installation of SCCM 2007 and imported all advertisements, collections and applications, but no history. I'm stuck on the cleanest and safest process to upgrade the client from SMS Advanced to SCCM 2007, and how to move them to the SCCM server: In-place upgrade with a site code reassignment or a separate removal of Advanced Client followed by SCCM client install w/ new site code..... History: When the SMS Advanced client was installed, it was done with a specified Site Code (001), not using AUTO (not my doing). Our SCCM site code is S01 Our Site Boundaries are defined in such a way on the SMS server that I can't swing systems over gradually unless I have overlapping boundaries in both environments while the process occurs. I'm sure this won't be the only post from me on this subject. Your suggestions are very welcome and appreciated. Thanks, Dino

Dino, What I have done is: Removing the boundries from SMS 2003 for a location and adding the boundary to ConfigMgr. 2007 Run as script as a package in SMS 2003 that will reassign the clients in the location to ConfigMgr. 2007 Once in ConfigMgr. 2007 I have used the standard ConfigMgr. client package to upgrade the clients. I used the AssignSiteCode.exe from http://www.myitforum.com/articles/1/view.asp?id=12548Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Kent, That helped, thanks. I have another question. I'm attempting to install the SCCM Config. Mgr. console on my local XP SP3 desktop and I keep getting these frustrating messages: "setup has encountered fatal errors while performing file operations" The console did install successfully to my workstation from the CD media for SCCM 2007, the base version without any SP.s "Version: 4.00.6221.1000". However I want to upgrade the console to match our SCCM release level SCCM 2007 R3. The console version on our server is: "Version 4.00.6487.2000" Below is an example of the message in the log file: <10-07-2011 10:50:54> Cannot copy \\KM25984\CDROM\SMSSETUP\AdminUI\XmlStorage\Extensions\Pages\V4SiteSystemsShareDistributionPoint\VirtualAppServerPage.XML to c:\program files\microsoft configuration manager console\adminui\xmlstorage\extensions\pages\v4sitesystemssharedistributionpoint\virtualappserverpage.xml, Win32 error = 87Thanks, Dino
