SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER application log error
I'm running SCCM 2007 SP2 on Server 2008 R2 with the schema extended. I upgraded from SP1. Now I'm seeing the error below and I'm having trouble installing the client via Software Update Point based installation. How can I resolve the error and is it related to my inability to distribute the client via a Software Update Point? If I go to SCCM > Site Database > Site Managment > $SiteName > Site Settings > Client Installation Methods and view the Software Update Point Client Installation the Available version is 4.00.6487.2000, but the Published version is blank. The version available is the SP2 client version. I want to publish that version and I want to fix the error in the application log. When I open the Software Update Point Client Installation properties it informs me that a newer version is available and asks if I would like to publish it. I select Yes, but it isn't working. I can't find which log file would be related to this.

It seems that you have two issues here. First your MP didn't install as indicated by "SMS Site Component Manager failed to install this component on this site system." We need to fix that before anything else. Since you are running SCCM on a domain controller (personally I would never do that) the local groups that are normally created on the SCCM box don't get created locally they are AD groups. I think that may have something to do with your issue installing the MP. If you can get that working maybe the clients will install. I don't think I will be much help getting it working though since I have never used a DC as a SCCM servers. It is a supported configuration just not reccomended.
