SCOM question about removing servers
If I decommission a server but don't delete it from SCOM will SCOM continue to generate alerts even though the server no longer exists? In other words, how does SCOM differentiate between a server that is down and one that no longer exists? Kenny

No, you might get one missing HB alert, but you will not get anything else. Just go into administration and delete the greyed out server.Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/

One more alert will be ping status which depend on whether your environment enable it or not(default is disable) . The appro. way is to delete the decommission server entity in SCOM. Roger

So if the server still exists but is down for an extended period of time will it also just generate one heartbeat and one ping alert? Or will it continue to check periodically and send additional alerts?Kenny

Should be one unless you bounce the health service on the RMS.Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/
