SCOM on Azure VM

Hello,

I would like to know if it's possible to implement SCOM on a VM in Azure as an IaaS configuration to monitor others Azure VMs. Since I've seen there is the Operational Insights service in preview on Azure, is this service offer the same functionnality as SCOM ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

Yes, a VM running in Windows Azure IaaS is essentially a VM running an OS, and as such the VM and any applications that reside on it can be monitored with OpsMgr just like you would monitor any other on-premise VM.

For a complete description, check out this article:

Yes. It just like normal SCOM implementation. For detail, you may refer to Chiyo Odika has blog

2) Operational Insights service
Operation Insights service can apply missing updates to servers in your infrastructure, help you understand server infrastructure capacity, gather event and IIS logs, protect the servers in your infrastructure from malware, comprehensive view into your organizations IT security posture, assess the risk and health of your server environments on a regular interval and manage alerts from servers monitored by Operations Manager.

It does not replace SCOM functionality on individual machine service monitoring, HD monitoring and performance monitoring.

Thanks for your answers,

My configuration should be 100% built in the cloud (even the Management Server of SCOM) and not a cross-premises connectivity. That's why, I think the configuration made in the cloud is quite the same as the configuration for an on-premise Ops Manager implementation.

The implementation is no different to on-premise ones.
