SCOM did not alert when disk space low
Hi all, we are running on SCOM 2007 SP1 and installed the management pack for windows 2003 server and are monitoring our win2k3 servers, but apparently we found out that we did not get alerted when the c drive of one of our server storage being low and checked in scom there's no active alert as well and on the managed server the c drive state is in green, we override the MP to alert when the threshold below 10000MB and 10% for system drive, btw we install the scom agent on D drive, it should take C drive as system disk rather than D right? the managed servers is running win2k3 R2 64bits and the scom agent installed is also 64bits, we did not notice any error at event viewer as well. would surely need advice on this. Thank you.

Hi, Did you reach the threashold both for free % and free Mb? Both needs to be reached before you will get an alert.

hi there, yeah indeed for our case the drive space is less than 300MB and that should over the configured MB and % threshold for the MP. In SCOM we still see that the state is still green, we then try to restart the health service at the managed server then SCOM will only update the state to error. we can't afford to restart the service for each of our servers and funny thing is we get other alert from the same managed server but not the alert for the disk space...thanks.

You don't receive disk space alert only for a particular or for all your monitored servers ? In the event viewer, don't you have a warning event which said that a that script couldn't run and the monitor will be disable ?Christopher Keyaert - My OpsMgr/SCOM blog : http://www.vnext.be

yup we din't receive alert for that particular server as we doesn't know the disk space is low when problem happen, now we are afraid that other monitored servers with disk space low will not be alerted as well and thus causing service down. we checked the event viewer and does not see any error with script could not run and the monitor be disable though. Thank you.

thanks for the link, currently the issue we are facing is not because the threshold not meet but the scom does not update the state when in low disk space condition it still show green and will need to restart the health service at the managed server then it will reflect in scom and send out the alert. Thank you.

How long have you waited for the alert to appear? Standard settings ensure that the free disk space check occurs only once an hour. So if both warning and critical thresholds are transgressed within the hour, you will see no alert whasoever. If this behaviour is not what you want, change the frequency with an override.

Hi David, we are aware that the check occurs once per hour but fyi the space on the drive does not fill up in an hour time because at the background of the server it is collecting log for application which grows around 300MB per day. Thanks
