SCOM Agent and SCE Configuration Helper slow down client's machine?
Is it possible that the SCOM Agent and SCE Configuration Helper cause client's machine to slow down or freeze? I have couple of cases here where clients reported that their computer is extremely slow, and after a thorough investigation, and it seems like the monitoringhost.exe and healthservice.exe are the culprits... Removing them from client's machine would resolve the freeze or slow down problem. However, we won't be able to monitor the client's machine anymore. Any idea why this happens? Are there any hotfixes for this kind of errors? Any reply and help would be appreciated. Edited note: to be more precise, SCOM Agent and SCE Configuration Helper are being pushed to client's machine from SCE console server just in case you wonder why i posted issue about SCOM here in SCE forum. Thanks

Hello, Sorry to hear about the slow performance issue on your client computers. Generally, performance issue may be caused by the software conflict. Try the following methods to check it: 1. Update SCE 2007 to SP1 version and make sure all Management Packs are latest version. This will help avoiding many known issues. 2. Have you installed the anti-virus software, or some programs that may modify the OS? If so, you can use Process Explorer to check what DLL files are loaded by the Monitoringhost.exe process. If there are some third party applications’ DLLs, please uninstall these applications and check whether the issue reoccurs. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx 3. Try with a Clean Boot. A Clean Boot will allow us to isolate any device drivers or programs that are loading at startup that may be causing a conflict with other device drivers or programs that are installed in your computer. Here is the steps: a) Run MSCONFIG.EXE. (MSCONFIG is a built-in tool for Windows XP\2003 systems.)b) In the Services tab, click "Hide All Microsoft Services" and click "Disable All". c) In the Startup tab, click "Disable All". Click OK. (This will temporarily prevent third-party programs from running automatically during start-up.)d) Restart the computer. Does the problem still persist? If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You can use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit. Hope it helps,Yog Li - MSFT

Hi Yog Li, Thank you so much for your reply. I thought i would be the only one experiencing this issue and no resolution to it. 1. Anyway, we do have SCE 2007 SP1 and with the latest updates as well. Search through microsoft but no other update later than that. 2. We do have Symantec Endpoint in our system but that only for Virus protection, we don't apply any device/app control policies here so very least likely to have any conflict but possible - i will keep an eye on it. So far, all the monitoring agents on afffected machine were removed, so they are running fine for now, but wouldn't want to install agent on them again. 3. I will try this one and let you know the results. Thank you.

Hello Yog Li Yesterday we got the same issues with all tested client computers - uninstalling the System Center SCE Agent and Helper or disabling the service will resolve the issue. Are there any more issues like that in the meantime? Regards André
