SCOM 2012 RC & Authoring Console 2007 R2 x64
I have installed SCOM RMS 2012 RC and also the Authoring Console 6.1.7221.49 (x64). Actually the problem involves the latter one: 1. I run the Auth Console and I create a new emtpy Mgmt Pack. 2. I type both Mgmt Pack Id and Display Name then I press 'Create' button. 3. Now I get the message: Referenced management pack not found: [Name=Microsoft.SystemCenter.Library, KeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, Version=6.1.7221.0]. Click 'OK' to manually locate it Same exact problem when I try to open an existing Mgmt Pack (pls note that the existing Mgmt Pack is correctly imported in SCOM 2012) The problem happens also if I try to manually locate it with: a. The Mgmt Pack of SCOM 2012 placed in C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2012\Server b. The Mgmt Pack ok KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2590414 c. The Mgmt Pack of the Authoring Console itself placed in C:\Program Files\System Center MP Authoring Console 2007 d. The Mgmt Pack of SCOM 2007 (I manually copied it in a dedicated folder) The same issue happens also if I install Authoring Console x32 in a SCOM RMS 2012 but DOES NOT happened if I install the Authoring Console on a SCOM RMS 2007 (in this case it works correctly). I do not now if it is important but I opened the Microsoft.SystemCenter.Library of SCOM 2012 on the Authoring Console and I get the error Application: System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 Authoring Console Application Version: 6.1.7221.49 Severity: Error Message: XSD verification failed for management pack. [Line: 1, Position: 40] The 'SchemaVersion' attribute is not declared. System.Xml.Schema.XmlSchemaValidationException: The 'SchemaVersion' attribute is not declared. If I open the same Mgmt Pack, but the copy placed in the Authoring Console folder, it loads errorless. Thank you! Elizabeth

The Authoring Console has not been updated and does not understand the new OpsMgr 2012 MP Schema version. It can still be used to produce MP that will work on both OpsMgr 2007 R2 and OpsMgr 2012, but you need to reference the old versions of the libraries.

Do you have an idea of when there will be a new release of the Authoring Console fully compatible with the System Center Operations Manager 2012? Does Microsoft still support public cloud monitoring such as Azure in addition to focus on private clouds? Christian Cote

Wow, these are multiple questions at once... on an already-answered topic! :-) Authoring - there are no plans for new releases of the Authoring Console as you know it, but there will be TWO new tools very soon: Visio Management Pack Designer - more oriented to ITPro's Visual Studio Authoring Extensions - more for Developers. Some documentation has quietly started to appear on the TechNet Wiki http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/management-pack-authoring-in-operations-manager.aspx When it comes to Azure, we have a Windows Azure Management pack ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11324 ), a SQL Azure management Pack ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28951 ); and other components of System Center (not OpsMgr but AppController) are featuring Azure management capabilities. See more on this blog, for example http://blogs.technet.com/b/server-cloud/archive/2011/12/01/managing-and-monitoring-windows-azure-applications-with-system-center-2012.aspx
