SCOM 2012 Beta can not send mail for alert notification
Hello, I am testing SCOM 2012 beta. Now, I can not let the SCOM2012 beta make a notification. I've set up the Accounts, Subscribers and Channels in the Administration. The setting down here: Account: A. Create a basic authentication account named: SMTP. (SMTP's credentials is: howard_hsiao@edit.com.tw / PASSSWORDXXXXX. Distribution is all the main nodes.) B. Join this new account to the Validate Alert Subscription Account under the Profiles. Channels: A. Build a new record named: SMTP. I've entered the SMTP server, port with 25, Authentication with Anonymous. B. Return address set it up. And set the "retry interval" in 1 min. C. Email format with default setting. And mail's encoding is "UTF-8". Subscribers: A. New a record. B. Schedule with setting: 'Always send notifications' C. Address: set up the channels's new record : SMTP Then, I switch to "Active Alerts" view under the Monitoring. I pick up a current critical event randomly. Right click and select "Notification Subscription for Create." I followed the wizard to build up a new notification subscription. But, there is none of mails would be generated. I've checked the SMTP server working. It seems mail server is fine. Firewall disable and nothing blocking the network connection between SCOM server and SMTP server. May I ask how do I do next step for the issue? Thanks!

Hi Check the Operations Manager event log on the Management Servers. Also make sure your account that you are using has log on locally rights to the Management Servers. Note that what you are doing won't create an email. You are creating the subscription. For a rule you then need to close the alert and wait for the problem to reoccur. For a monitor you need to reset health and wait for the problem to reoccur. Hello, May I ask how to check the SCOM's logs?! I came to problem with using "StartTracing.cmd". The command would meet the error: "Access is denied". Would you please be kind to tell me how to debug?! Thanks!

The Operations Manager event log is a windows event log. Start, Run, EventVwr.exe - then Applications and Services logs - Operations Manager. Take a look there for warnings and errors. Hi, I have the same Issue. Configured my Scom beta test to mail ALL alerts. We use Microsofts Hmailserver, testing mail within telnet session works fine. So hmail server is Ok. We see the alerts in te active alerts screen. When watch the status logging we can see that OM does not even try to connect. SMTP channel has been configured to smtp to localhost. In the eventviewer, Application Events, we see error events : Application: MonitoringHost.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an internal error in the .NET Runtime at IP 000007FEF9CA1BD5 (000007FEF9C60000) with exit code 80131506. Please advice, Kind Regards, and thanks for reading. Hans van Deursen, Driessen HRM Payroll

we are having the exact same issue too. it looks like we might just have to write some sql code to scan the alerts table and send emails out, until the RTM is released
