SCOM 2007 R2 agent not monitoring state for windows operating system
A deployed agent on a windows server 2008 standard is showing windows Operatin System state as not monitored. I have done a repair and a complete uninstall/re-install and it does not get discovered as a 2008 server. Computer state shows healthy but the operating system column shows "not monitored". I have looked through the logs and don't see any apparent failures. I have several similar servers that are fully monitored. Has anyone else run across this?

Hi, please first make sure the latest version of Windows Server Operating System Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007 has been installed: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3529d233-5e3e-4b51-8f66-5d6f27005ec3 If the issue persists, please check if the following KB article will help: The "Windows Operating System" column has a "Not monitored" state for a new agent: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979387 Here is also a similar thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-GB/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/1c283338-0694-4d6d-9a4b-14d6777c1336 Hope it helps. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Are you multihoming your agent? (i.e. do you have more than one OpsMgr Management Group?)- Daniele, Microsoft MVP OpsMgr This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. http://nocentdocent.wordpress.com http://www.progel.it

Can you take a look at the OperationsManager event log on the RMS and Primary Management Server for the agent. Do you see any 10801 errors or 33333 warnings? View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Imported the newest OS mp and saw in the agented server where the new MPs were updated with Event 1201 and the older versions discarded Event 1204. Yet, the OS shows still "not monitored" Health Explorer shows no evidence of OS nor any hardware rollups active.

Hi As Vivian has already mentioned - have you waited 3 days since removing the agent? http://www.kbalertz.com/979387/Operating-column-state-agent.aspx If you look at the Operations Manager event log on the RMS \ Primary Management Server for this agent, do you see events 10801 and 33333 which relate to the Management Server not being able to store discovery data in the database? When it was intitially installed it behaved this way. I pushed an agent and pretty much forgot about this server until we were notified that one of the logical drives was full and wondered why the server did not alert. As I revisited the server I seemed to remember not seeing it become fully monitored but in a 700+ server environment, bigger issues came up and it was overlooked. I have sucessfully discovered and pushed agent s to many 2008 Servers since this server's intitial push. I could not find any 10801 or 33333 related to Windows Operating System Discovery

Local drive full? try clearing the Health Service Cache and restarting the HS. If you are low on space this would be a issue.Rob Kuehfus | System Center Operations Manager | Setup and Deployment Program Manager

I have not had any success with any of the other suggestions. I have not tried removing the agent and let the grooming remove the netBIOS name from the database. I will give this a try. Is there no SQL query to forcibly purge the name from the DB? Waiting 3 days seems a bit extreme.

SCOM was holding on to an old Netbios name because I re-deployed an agent this morning and all aspects that were not monitored before are now fully monitored.
