SCOM 2007 R2 GUID to Display in the console alert in Custom Fields
Has there been any progress with getting the alert GUID to display in one of the custom fields? I have work arounds but this is for console operators who do not have work arounds and it would be handy to have the GUID available to them when discussing
alerts. As one other poster said we are tracing alerts from another Manager of Mangers back to SCOM.

Not sure on your current workaround but one way would be to create a command channel that runs a powershell script to update a custom field with the Alert ID. But there isn't a way out of the box as custom fields are exposed for overrides so for sealed management
packs you can only make "after the alert" updates.
Here is something similar:

Just need to have the custom field updated with the alertid rather than the info that Steve populates it with.
Cheers

Thanks, I'm looking into your suggestion. To be complete, I get the Alert ID from the SCOM adapter that sends the Alert ID up to SMARTs INCharge, our Manager of Managers. The alert ID is presented in the SMARTs alert as received from SCOM.
I can go back to a power shell query "get-alert -id" and retrieve all the info. However, that isn't availble to the SCOM console operators. When discussing alerts with them, to clearly identify what alert we are discussing, I'd
like the discussions to revolve around the Alert ID. We've discussed passing the Alert ID back to SCOM from SMARTs but that seems inefficient.Timothy Francis

The suggested method requires the alert ID as input to a powershell script which is somewhat circular for my particular needs. Does anyone know if Microsoft intends on displaying the Alert ID anywhere within the SCOM alert as displayed
to console operators in a future version? Could this be an enhancement request? If so, what are the appropriate channels to make the request? Timothy Francis

Hi Timothy
Enhancement requests can be posted to http://connect.mircosoft.com - I would personally be surprised if there were any plans to display the AlertID but I can understand how it would help you.
At present, your only options are to either run a retrospective script to update a custom field (as per Steve Rachui's blog) or to pass an identifying field back from your Manager of Managers. I appreciate neither are ideal \ optimally efficient. I have
an open enhancement request to be able to set custom fields via overrides so that retrospective scripts aren't necessary but this request has not progressed.

Thank you Graham. Your prompt replies really are quite helpful. This was my first attempt to aquire SCOM information via a blog at tech net. I will, no doubt, utilize this channel more frequently because of my experience. In the vein
that everyone is Irish on St Patty's day, Happy St. Pattys day! I'm guessing you are British which isn't a huge reach :). We are a global company with partners in London, Guernsey and Dublin.

hi Tim
Yep - based in London. Are you in Dublin? Should be a good night if you are (though I guess neither London nor Guernsey will be bad on St Patricks day!).
Cheers
