SCOM 2007 R2: Operations Manager cannot connect to the Web service
Hi, I have one environment where a non-MS-proxy is used for connecting to internet. Each time a user is trying to call any webpage he/she has to logon once for the session. There's no way in this environment to connect to the internet without a seperate logon. Due to this fact I guess the error message Operations Manager cannot connect to the Web service is understandable when I'm trying to import Management Packs from catalog. But is there a chance to solve this problem? How can I tell the scom console to use the needed credentials or proxy settings? Thanks for any response.Alex

Hi,I think it will use the same settings as IE local on the macine. But if you open a IE and input your credentials and connect to internet, and then open the ops mgr console on the same machine and tries to connect to the MP catal does it work? Another solution would be to allow some management workstation to access internet without a extra logon.Anders Bengtsson | Microsoft MVP - Operations Manager | http://www.contoso.se

Hi Anders, that doesn't work: I have logged on to the Internet (browsing to www.bing.com for example) and got the logon mask. After successful getting to bing.com I started the "Import Management Packs"-Scenario via Console: same error message again. As said: this environment is a high secure environment with no allowance to connect directly with any workstation to the internet. Is there any description what is checked and done while trying to "Import Management Packs from Catalog"?Alex

If your policy prevents you from making updates to proxy settings in your IE options (security and connections tabs) then you will not be able to use the in product import experience with a non-microsoft proxy. You can still get management packs - by going to the on line web catalog, downloading the MSI's you want and setting them up on some machine you have access to, then moving the files on disk or by other means to a share that is accessible to your administrator console. You can import from file just like you used to in Ops Manager SP1.Microsoft Corporation

Is it really that un clear that MS needs release a featre pack or update to add the functionality for the user to have an independant settings dialog in SCOM, to state proxy settings... such as an ACLproxy. ACLproxy - a secondary proxy on an infrastructure used exclusively by servers and /or management stations to provide internet access on a per Access Control List rule... e.g. you have a managemant server running , Vmware vCenter & Update manager, MS HyperV, Console, SCOM console, SCCM Console, Antivirus Admin Server Console.... by configuring each and or the local broswer proxy settigns to point to the aclproxy.local.net 3128, allows the consoles to use either webbased functions, aV to get updates to be deployed etc... the aclproxy itself has a Allowed list of destinations by Domain/IP and /or wildcard *.vmware.com, *microsoft.com... which is maintained in an excel sheet and added to on a case by case basis via a change management submission form. thats how a highly secured infrastructure (production) is best implementated. heres hoping the new SCOM 2012 and SCCM have this has a feature....
