SCE 2007 and WSUS downstream
Is it possible to use SCE 2007 for all functions except microsoft updates? We have a client that has MS updates managed by WSUS downstream controlled by the local authority. They want to use SCE to distribute software, third party updates etc. The client machines point at the DC with the WSUS downstream for MS updates in rsop. The client shows as not contacted yet in the computer space in SCE.Is there a way round this or will SCE only manage the clients if the MS updates are controlled by SCE?

Hi,No, that will not work. SCE uses the WSUS part for both Software deployment, Update management and inventory.Bjrn Axell MVP - Advisec AB http://blog.advisec.com

Thank you for your help, I am wondering whether SCCM would be the way to go instead.

Software deployment (we will take over updates when all else is sorted) is a biggy - we are using WDS and will be using BDD (old name sorry!) so this would be the next stage as we need to be able to rebuild and turn round machines quickly and also add software to machines in different deptsas required. Monitoring etc will obviously be important but the ease of rebuilding machine and software deployment are the most important at this stage.
